Spider Climb + Grease

Shadow Lodge

If someone is clinging to a wall with spider climb and grease spell is cast on the same spot what happens?

Is the person clinging to the wall only subjected to the spells normal DC to fall or is there more. What if the person stays the grease area still clinging to the wall.

I'd say since spider climb is a second level spell and grease is a first level spell spider climb would work normally.

From a RAW perspective, Grease would have no effect on a creature using Spider Climb, because Spider Climb states "...furthermore, it need not make Climb checks to traverse a vertical or horizontal surface (even upside down)". Grease would increase the DC of any Climb check made, but since Spider Climb negates the necessity for a check, it would have no effect.

Spider Climb only affects the climb check, however, grease requires an acrobatics check and a reflex saving throw, so in order for the person not to fall they would still need to make the acrobatics check and reflex saving throw, it doesn't negate it completely. If the person stays on the wall without moving I believe they don't have to make a check or save, but when they move they will have to make those checks.

Scarab Sages

The reflex save is taken when the spell is cast.

The acrobatics check is taken whenever moving through a Grease spell's area of effect.

there is one reflex save for when i cast the grease spell at you. whether or not you are on the wall, ceiling, or floor, you get a save to dodge the area i am greasing. with spider climb active, standing on the wall is exactly the same as standing on the ground, so grease would have the exact same results as normal. actually it would probably be worse. if you jump out of the way it probably means you disconnect from the surface. that is why you would have to make an acrobatics, not climb, check to avoid the secondary reflex save to avoid falling.
