Life Oracle Necromancer

Advice

Hello everybody!
I'd like to ask you an advice. I have a Life Oracle (neutral good or chaotic good). Since in Oracle description there isn't the title "Chaotic, Evil, Good, and Lawful Spells" (otherwise Cleric description) he can cast evil spells (like Animate Dead), even if he is good. I'd like to direct him to Necromancy spells, especially Animate Dead, Inflict Wounds and similar. Also, I can give him feats like Spell Focus (necromancy) and Undead Master. So the figure I am making is a Necromancer who has a very great power in healing.

In my opinion this is a way to play a Necromancer in a party who needs a powerful healer.

What are your opinions about this character?
Thank you

I think that without the ability to channel negative energy, you're going to find it very difficult to keep your minions alive.

a thought, the description of channel positive to heal is that it heals all creatures in the area except those that you specify with selective channel, if a necro-focused character even has selective channel, so wouldnt you be "healing" your allied undead with positive energy, and as such damaging them? i ask because i know when a pc plays a Dhampire they are healed by negative and wounded by positive, no matter if the healer selected to heal over to damage.

Scarab Sages

That is correct. He could never heal his minions with his channel, only harm them, even if he selected to "heal".

Shadow Lodge

Thats actually not true.

"A good cleric (or a neutral cleric who worships a good deity) channels positive energy and can choose to deal damage to undead creatures or to heal living creatures. "

You choose when you channel whether it is to heal or harm. If it is to heal it could never hurt undead, even by accedent, same for Daphires.

That being said yeah, not being able to channel negative to heal would be a hindrance. But wizards do it all the time so I am sure it would work ok.

I say go for it. Be a white necromancer. When your party gets upset tell them that you made sure teh souls moved on before your animated the bodies. Then tell them that it gives Wrong doers a chance to atone by doing good. Make a rule that you never raise undead from the body of a good person.

Seconding Seriphim84, a character who channels energy to heal will have no effect at all even if he's standing in the middle of a zombie convention. If he channels to harm, then there will be limbs dropping all over the place.

That said: From a pure RAW perspective, it's somewhat questionable if a Life Oracle can take the Selective Channel feat. It states a requirement of "Channel energy class feature"; the Oracle essentially has a revelation that allow them to do it, but the revelation doesn't say it adds it as a class feature.

From a table perspective, I'd allow it. Just thought I'd mention it.

Channel energy becomes a class feature through the revelation, so life oracles can take all of the channeling feats.
