Advice

Hello there!

I need your help, I'm making a group of 4 NPCs to first trick, then attack my party.

We're playing Kingmaker and my playsers are at level 7, they will be on their way to Varnhold when they meet these guys near the roc. However - the group Im building consists of a half orc ranger, a rogue, a bard and a witch. They're well known bandits and should be an actual threat to my party.

The PC:

- a lion shaman druid, dwarf
- a ZAM, half elf
- a bard, elf (archer)
- an oracle of life, human
- a magus, elf

I already built some of the enemies:

Bard: human, arcane duelist, probably scimtar wielding dervish dancer (I just didnt want hom do be the DD-archetype)

Ranger: Half orc, guide, switch hitter using a greatsword and composite bow - his companion is not done yet - any advice? Maybe a wolf.

Rogue: Scout, human, spring attacking with a spear

And yea, I have no idea how to build the witch. Im not familiar with that class at all and I just want a HD7 witch that fits to the rest of this party. She should be able to debuff and controll, but I dont want her to have sod's. Any advice for that bandit witch? She should be flavoured like that lestrange-woman from Harry Potter, at least that is what I have on my mind.

What is a "ZAM"?

Zen archer monk is the best I got for ZAM.

Shadow Lodge

Level 7 Witch

Feats: Accursed Hex, Ability Focus Hex (if allowed), Extra Hex Flight, Improved Familiar (Imp)

Hexes: Fortune, Misfortune, Cackle, Evil Eye, Flight

Spells like:
1st: Enlarge, Charm Person, Ear Piercing Scream, Mage Armor, Unprepared Combatant, Web Bolt
2nd: Blindness/Deafness, Fog Cloud, Glitterdust, Shadow Anchor, Vomit Swarm, Web
3rd: Bestow Curse, Dispel Magic, Ray of Exhaustion, Sleet Storm, Stinking Cloud
4th: Black Tentacles, Dimension Door, Geas Lesser, Web Cloud

Have the imp go invisible, pump his UMD and use scrolls to buff the bandits.

That actually sounds good!

Thanks for the input!

And Im looking for some ways to deal with the - yes - zen archer monk. Ray of exhaustion would be nice as it really handicaps him - as long as I will manage to touch him.

Otherwise I will go with fog cloud and stuff to make him move around or do you maybe have a better idea?

Scarab Sages

Stinking cloud is on the witch spell list. Why not make them nauseated as well as block line of sight?

If they're bandits, consider if they want to make an ambush, and in that case, prepare spells that are useful in such a situation. Disorientation, reduced movement etc are very nice, especially if the ambushers are spread out and thus can't easily be caught with area spells.

Depending on how well-prepared the bandits are (are they setting up a proper ambush? do they know anything about the groups abilities?) you might want to look at having the encounter tailored to the party.

The above spell list looks good and versatile - like something the witch would prepare as a standard if she doesn't know what she's getting into. I would reconsider Dimension Door though - with the Flight hex for mobility, it seems like there are more useful thing to put a top-level slot into. Like Confusion, Fear, or Summon Monster IV (for 1d3 dretches>stinking cloud+meatshields, 1d3 lantern archons aid+damage, 1 hound archon>aid+melee vs evil, or 1 gibbering mouther>generally great).

Fog cloud and similar is a great way to deal with the Zen. If you start up the combat with a fog cloud, the zen has to move to spot the ambushers and thus loses full attack. It also might buy the more castery ambushers some time to summon or buff up. Or even cast an area spell - surprise round fog cloud followed by first round confusion could be great.
