War Chanter

Advice

One of my players is asking about a Bard who inspires people based off the old War Chanter prestige class in Complete Warrior. Is there a pathfinder equivalent or should I just have him run that class with some tweaks?

Savage Skald would be the nearest equivalent. (from the advanced player's guide)

The Arcane Duelist picks up armor proficiency as he levels, you can make the perform check any way you want and this archetype "militarizes" nicely.

Nothing like it in PF. It would be easy to adapt for PF, though. I would have it advance inspire courage (I think that was an oversight in the 3.0 to 3.5 transition, since in 3.0 IC didn't improve), if not all performances. Losing all casting progression is very painful, and PF did give bards better spellcasting, too.

Ya the casting will be his greatest hurdle but we have a large party via leadership so he wanted something to support the large number of us in battle. Hmmm I might do some messing around with the Savage Skald then to put it more in line with what he wants (within reason of course)

I think I will just transfer each ability over from complete warrior and replace some of the songs. Song of the fallen could work as basically calling ghosts for your allies who died to fight for you for a certain amount of rounds or just make the barbarians it normally summons into fighters. For 18th level i will do inspire legion as it is in the book.

For the final touch stunted casting but let him pick up medium armor at the start

Thoughts?

Well, the biggest boon of the PrC is the combined songs, IMO. And the inspire legion is pretty good too, yeah.

Ya I am thinking of putting in combined songs in for a 10th level ability. They are 5th level now so it will be a little while before he can get it but that would also be the same time he would get it if he did the PrC

If you want Paizo only, try the Battle Herald from advanced players guide.

The only problem there is the requirement to multi class in order to qualify for it
