The PRD clearly states that a helm is separate from armor and shield as item damage goes 9see the chart at the bottom)
Ultimate Equioment doesnt mentiuon it either
Ultimate Combat comes close, with piecemeal armor, but only lists arms, legs, and chest, and even then, doesnt discuss hit points!
hardness i can get from the material. How do I calculate my helms hit points please?

So apparently we are moving this from an e-mail list discussion to a forum discussion.
IMO the chart for determining which magic item slots are damaged on a roll of natural 1 on a saving throw vs. a damaging area spell is beside the point (it applies to wondrous item helms, not helms that are part of armor).
Near as I can tell there are no rules for determining the exact hit points of a helmet. The hit points of armor equal Armor Bonus x 5 (plus 10hp for each +1 enhancement bonus). I'd say that 50% of the armor is concentrated in the torso, leaving the remaining 50% roughly evenly divided between each arm, each leg, and the head. So figure out the total hit points of your armor, divide by 2, then divide by 4 (or just divide the total hit points by 8) and that should give you the hit points of your helm. For example nonmagical full plate is +9, so has 45 hit points. Divide that by eight gives you roughly 6hp.
This isn't really official, just some speculation.
