And we're officially live!
Psionic Miniatures Kickstarter
I've got a video that will be going up hopefully this weekend - I just have to finish the audio and get it uploaded. :)
Anguish
UP hasn't been printed yet. Dreamscarred can increase the print-run order to account for any additional copies this project causes.
Don't think of it as people who got in on the original KS are getting shafted. We're not. We're getting exactly what we invested to get. We guaranteed the product would be created, and to the extent that we backed it to. We are speculators and investors, not purchasers. Once the project succeeds, others may benefit from our trail-breaking efforts.
There's no reason whatsoever why someone buying the 1,001st copy of UP should have to pay what we paid for copies 1 through 1,000.

Well, it also boils down to this:
We wanted a tier of "all stretch goals" - but this is a VERY unknown area for us - we didn't know how much support the project would get. We looked at the $100 reward level of Ultimate Psionics and what it got at the end - color hardcover, B&W Bestiary, printed & cut power cards, printed character sheets, printed adventure, and Psionics Embodied (not counting all of the other PDF rewards) - we said what would we be able to include with a potential for 20+ miniatures and still have the funds for the miniature production.
Ultimate Psionics in color is going to carry a retail price of around $80 - that hasn't changed. Psionic Bestiary is going to carry a retail price of $25. But because we haven't actually sent off for the print run yet, we get them at the lower price volume - i.e. the volume we needed to get them into retail to begin with.
But there's potential at the $100 level that all you'll get is those two books and 4 miniatures. And we wanted to make sure the reward in THAT scenario was worth the pledge.

Why are the books cheaper than they were in their own kickstarter? UP and the Bestiary were 105$ before, now you can get them for 100$, as well as a bunch of miniatures.
That kind of thing is often, though not always, the case. When you first start a Kickstarter for something that doesn't exist, you have to budget for the smallest possible print run. Smaller print runs are more expensive per book, and the total cost of art and production is divided between fewer units. When you pledge a Kickstarter you are often paying an "early adopter" price which is one reason why there is such an incentive to create unique Kickstarter-only rewards.
While I can't speak for Dreamscarred Press, it's easy for me to imagine it's cheaper to commit to more copies of something that already exists than to more miniature rewards with punishingly small production runs. One of the worst possible things is for a Kickstarter for a product to be successful, but a financial disaster.

I had a question over at the other thread, but it was never answered, so here it is again.
I've never actually played a psionic character. For the minis of the psionics classes, how does one differentiate them with arcane or divine casters? Wizards, Clerics, Druids, and Bards at least has some ways to differentiate between themselves (pointy hat, leaves, holy symbol, instrument). How will this be done with the psionic classes? Thanks.

Well, partly some of it is going to be their race - the soulknife is a xeph, the psychic warrior is a half-giant. For the psion, she'll be holding a staff and the wilder will likely be hand/hands to temples... And unlike wizards, they won't be in robes.
It's not exactly a perfect answer, but, well, there's only so much you can convey with metal figurines. :)

Fair enough, not a problem. I'll ponder a bit. Never really used Psionics before, though I'm not opposed to it. I'll look at the kickstarter more. Thanks!

Now that I'm back at a computer and not on a smart phone...
Silverhair - well, the reason we had two at the same level is they're aimed at different backers - ones who have the books already and just want all the accessories, and people brand new to psionics (or who didn't get in on Ultimate Psionics kickstarter). If you wanted BOTH, all the accessories are available as add-ons :)
Marc - Metal, correct. When we looked around for someone to produce the miniatures, metal was the way to go.

We are not quite 2 days in and already closing in on our $4,500 stretch goal to include a miniature of the phrenic scourge!
We've also added in a $75 reward tier that gets all miniatures unlocked via stretch goals, with a minimum quantity of 10 miniatures using duplicates if we don't unlock 10 different models.

An update!
We have broken past our $7500 stretch goal and are moving on to the $9000 stretch goal!
This means we are now producing EIGHT psionic miniatures, and are close to producing a ninth.
Now included are: aegis, psion, psychic warrior, soulknife, wilder, phrenic scourge, and psion-killer, plus the custom miniature for one backer. Next up is the dread, then the forgeborn.
The question now is not will we produce the minis, but how many minis will we make?

Resonance Generator: Deep Magic meets Psionics
Kobold Press and Dreamscarred Press team up to provide this Kickstarter-exclusive classic crossover! These two publishers offer you a chance to see 11 psionic powers written up as Vancian magic spells and to see 12 intriguing new spells from the Deep Magic sourcebook turned into psionic powers, including Mythic psionic powers. The Resonance Generator PDF also includes a section on reskinning psionic powers into a mana system for arcane spells.
This 8-page PDF will be provided free of charge to all backers who support both the Psionic Miniatures Kickstarter at $10 or higher and the Deep Magic Kickstarter at the $15 level or higher. The Resonance Generator ships in January, 2014 and will not be available elsewhere. Put a little crossover in your tank!

Yesterday was a huge day for the project - we've hit for the cryptic and are almost to funding for the ophiduan! That brings us up to thirteen psionic miniatures!
Our stretch goal after the ophiduan is open to backer voting - either a miniature for the astral construct or an as-yet-to-be-determined psionic monster!
Jeremy Smith Publisher, Dreamscarred Press
Danielc - unfortunately, no. The Kickstarter is to secure the funds to pay for the sculpting. And typically, these sculpts have to get worked into the sculptors' existing schedules, so it's not a quick turn-around. Since we weren't sure how successful the Kickstarter was going to be, we hadn't asked for an additional sculpt in case it ended up being unnecessary. The next sculpts likely won't be in until August.
Jeremy Smith Publisher, Dreamscarred Press
We've now hit funding for the ophiduan miniature and our next stretch goal is to make a miniature for the astral construct!
And if you're considering backing and haven't yet, the pledge levels to get one of every miniature will soon be getting a cost increase, as we're now up to fourteen minis and we need to make sure we have enough funds to cover the sculpting, molding, casting, and shipping costs.

I know it's not charged until everything's done, but I needed to be certain I actually had the funds to be able to back it when the time comes :)
AND SO I'm a proud backer at the $140 level :)
Regarding add-ons: would it be possible to perhaps "buy" any of those later, like, right before things ship?

With the exception of the printed & cut cards, all of those add-ons will be available for purchase later, yes.
For the cards... I have to see just how labor-intensive it's going to be if it'll be offered later. Being able to do it in bulk saves a lot of time, so I'll have to make sure doing one set is still cost/time effective.
And welcome aboard!

Heck yeah!
Considering I've wanted to do some work with or for Wolfgang for a while, but never really had a good topic to pitch, I'm stoked. AND I get to meet him at GenCon this year - win/win!
