Help incorporating a black blade in the story

Shattered Star

One of my players is playing a half orc bladebound magus in the Shattered Star game i run and am trying to find ways to make it part of the AP, both story wise and mechanics wise.
The player has agreed to receive the black blade later than the 3rd level so that i can place it where i want, also he has given me free reign over the shape (what kind of sword it is) and the alignment of the black blade.

So far the only things i have come up with are the following:
1) The black blade will be placed in the sihedron shrine and the black blade is part of the ritual* and magic needed to reforge the sihedron.
2) The black blade will be able to change the material it is made of to one of the seven skymetals**

That's all i have right now, not a name, not a personality, not a big story, not even the kind of the sword.
Any help you can give me will be appreciated.

*Alaznist couldn't replicate the sihedron shrine exactly, so she needed something more that's why she build/found/bound (haven't decided what yet) the black blade in order to help with the reforging ritual

**Each day when the magus prepares his spells he will be able to decide wich of seven skymetals the black blade is made of, also he will be able to change the skymetal during the day by spending a pool point from the blade. The magus won't have access to all seven skymetals from the beginning, he must first place the sihedron shards he has in the sihedron shrine and then he will be able to choose from those skymetals.

The alignment of the blade is the same as the character. I would put it in a treasure pile.

Spoiler:
Specifically, either Nualia's treasure spot or the duro Magister's pile that she's collected from the various people they've kidnapped.

In either case I'd definitely place it before the final book 1 fight.

ha! you said Nualia, got a bit of RoftRL on the brain do ya?, its all good, i agree on the advice just wanted to point that out:)

same here

Magus in NE , aligned to daemons, and he hates aberrations and there imperfection

On about the 5th or 6th map down on SoS placed an aberration bearing two blades, one for the magus one for the beastie. It taunted the magus beforehand saying is this the best that can be sent against him etc.

epic fight and now a bleak champion has arisen. Death is always the answer.

Liberty's Edge

I just LOVE this ability. I think it would fit our GM's homebrew Witcher class perfectly. Thank you for this wonderful idea.

BTW : name should be something about stars/light and metal. Maybe Star's Edge or Seven Tears (for the seven metals).

The kind of sword is the one most useful for him. Way I fluff it is that the sword and the magus recognize each other and the sword mystically adapts its shape to the one that best fits the magus once and for all when they bond together (ie, at first contact).

Maybe this black blade is a kind of protean spirit that anchors itself to an adequate creature, to its needs and beliefs, so that it can act on the material world, maybe even leaving a lasting trace through the deeds it will do with its wielder.

Heh, I should have read the board a bit better. I posted a similar question in the GM thread.

I asked what a good purpose for the Blade would be.

I like the idea that the Blade can change into one of the seven Skymetals if the PCs have that shard. I might use that, but add it to the Energy Attunement ability (or it unlocks at that time).

I actually had some story line fluff from level 1 on where I had a "black metallic stone of unknown origin" in my inventory. I'd roleplay taking it out and holding it while I memorized spells each day, or when sitting around on watch, sort of like a security blanket. Upon reaching level 3, I wrote up about a page and a half of story where my character is holding the stone and feels a void of energy that reminds him of his innate ability to enhance a weapon using his arcane pool. He then pushed an arcane pool enhancement into the stone as if it was a weapon and it... hatched.

Unfortunately, since then my DM has been disappointing me by not picking up any role play at all with my intelligent weapon. Hmmmmm.
