International Subscribers and Added Costs

Hi,

I have seen a few posts that go into things like extra shipping charges/customs charges etc, for internation subscribers, but I have a different problem. If you can find a way around this in your setup, then great. If not, please bear it in mind next time you consider fixed length subscriptions.....

My Problem? Twofold.

1) Exchange rates fluctuate, annoyingly, this means I never know *just* how much my subscription will cost, even when it ships, only when I get my bank statement. Admittedly, this is small change for a pathfinder subscription, but it would be nice if you had a some way to sell in £'s as well as dollers....

2) Secondly, my bank, as nice as they are :), charge me £1 ($2 at the moment) to work out the doller/pound conversion rate. This means that pathfinder costs me $18.99 ~ £9.50 + £1 charge, that means I pay £12 per year more than I would if I was charged in £....that is a couple of Gamesmastry modules I cannot buy!

There are three ways I have thought off that would alleviate this for me, 1) Get a UK presence, or whatever you need, to charge in £ as well as dollers! (If you do this for the UK, everyone will wnat it though won't they? Possibly look at your top 2 international user's countries and give their currency?) 2) Accept paypal, as far as I know they don't charge like this.... 3) Do fixed length subscriptions, £1 or £2 per year isn't a problem for me, even a rolling subscription that charges for a full access path in one go, would be fine by me.

Only you, Paizo, can say which of these, if any is easiest/possible....but please bear in mind, I would *much* rather you had these £12, than my bank!

Sorry for the ramble, hope it makes sense!

Regards....

How do you pay, with a Visa or Master Card here in Germany I only pay like 1 or 2% of the price payed (would be less than 20 Eurocents per pathfinder) per transaction in a foreign currency...and I guess this is what Paypal also charges (might be wrong on this, though). Admitted a flat 1 pound per transaction is really annoying, that is nearly 10%, and I don't know if credit cards are given away that freely in the UK as they are in Germany...

I gave up subscriptions because of that. It was turning out much pricey (here in Brazil, U$1.00 was R$1.00, but some stupid govern decided to avoid international shippings by raising the exchange, so now U$1.00 = R$2.00).... ¬¬

Soooo sad..... :(

Technically, its a visa debit card.

Have never trusted myself with a credit card!! :)

Then fees are just different in the UK and Germany, I guess. Do you at least get the bill and pay for pathfinder and Gamemastery in on go? Then it is at least only 50p per book...

Have you seen the current £/$ exchange rate? If they set a UK £ price we will all probably end up paying more for the product.

Also, given the total and complete mess that TPFG made of the UK and European Dragon/Dungeon distribution, if distribution is not in Paizos control then I for one will be cancelling my subscription.

Lol, that first is almost certainly true....I did a cost compair of Campaign Cartographer, the parts that paizo sell, verses the uk price on the CC3 site....Paizo came out £25 cheaper, including P&P at 3 x the CC3 cost!

Don't know about the second though, never bout dragon or gungeon except as a 1 off, and more through paizo as pdf than anything else.

Sufice it to say, paizo make something that looks too good to be true, true from my point of view...But that extra £12 is irksome.

I'd just like to add that I do NOT want to see a fixed exchange rate, so if it was added, I'd much rather it be optional.

If my Pathfinder/GameMastery subscriptions were fixed at the exchange rate when I first signed up ~4 months ago, I'd be paying much more (relatively speaking) as the difference between US & Canadian currency has gone from $0.90:$1.00 to par over that same time period. And over the last 4-5 years, its flucuated from 1:1 (now) to anywhere as low as ~0.65:1...

So personally I'd rather take my chances than lock in at an exchange rate.

I never mentioned fixing the exchange rate! Ewww, that would be horrid.

I suppose paying up font for a fixed length subscription could be considred fixing it, but that is as far as I would go.
