Exploarative duo

Advice

Heyho guys :) I have a problem and hopefully someone can help me with that.

In our new campaign I will be the second member of a duo of player characters. The two characters are supposed to be explorers in foreign lands (Jungles, Deserts, the Ocean,...).

The other players' concept is that he is a guy who likes to tell stories and if there are none to tell he makes his own.

My problem is, I have huge trouble to think up a concept, race, class, style, anything that would fit into this concept, even though I really like the campaign-idea and the idea of my buddie's character.

So I'd ask you, could you give me any pointers or ideas what kind of character might fit into this set-up? The only thing is probably going to be that I will have to be a bit of a meatshield, but other than that I have nothing so far.

Thanks in advance :D.

A good listener.

Teamwork feats would be nice for the two of you, but it's difficult to give any specific advice without knowing more about the characters. From a story point-of-view, the talkative one in a partnership tends to be the "face", and the other is the "muscle". So I'd suggest something big, strong and silent.

You could consider being a ranger or a druid, given the amount of time being spent outside exploring, or a cleric of a deity of travel. If you are going to be the strong silent type as suggested above, you could consider a human, half-elf, half-orc as a race. Human because they are so short-lived the hurry to explore as much as they can, or the others because they have never felt particularly tied down to a sing place. Gnome would also work with the theme of adventuring, but would suffer some penalties in the "strong" department.

Scarab Sages

It might be fun to be a primitive race like a Grippli who hooked up with the story-teller on a previous mission and ended up staying with him to listen to more stories.

I think when people hear the word stories they automatically assume bard.

Personally I would go with a divine sort, a follower of Desna or Erastil full of wanderlust.

If you are in woods or jungles a lot, an Oracle of Wood would be very useful.

@sunbeam,
1)The OP is not about the story teller, it is about the companion to the story teller.
2) No one has suggested that the story teller be a bard either.

Great thanks for all the advice you guys have given me! :D

I think that I will go with a ranger, kind of a person who is native to the jungle, maybe was part of a tribe there.

I'll have to build that character, we are allowed to use Heroic Character Generation case the fights are supposed to be a bit on the tough side right from the start. We start at level 3.

When I get the character built I'll post the outline here, maybe people can give me some pointers where I could improve and such. :)
