How do I handle a PC being sent to another plane?

Advice

During a recent game one of my players was sent to the plane of fire. He as a 14th level sylph sky druid and immediately changed into a fire elemental so he can survive. He wants to find a way back home but the only large settlement I know of is the City of Brass and he does not speak Ignan. It seems more likely that he would be captured and enslaved or have to do some sort of side adventure before he can be sent back home. Any Ideas?

Not speaking ignan isn't a problem for a 14th level druid. (share language, elemental speech)

If he can get his hands on a Message spell (bard 0, sorcerer/wizard 0, summoner 0, witch 0) then he could cast it through a Greater Scrying to contact his party in order to start a rescue. Druids don't get much in way of extra-planar spells but at least he's not going have any trouble in adapting to the environment of the Plane of Fire.

Pretty much the only way he's getting out himself is if he can find some fire-immune plant growing in the plane of fire, use his transport via plants spell, and hope some goofy planar traveler is growing a garden of them in a volcano somewhere in the material plane. (Transport via Plants doesn't have a planar restriction)

Wow, that's a bit of a goofup on Transport via Plants... or it it?

Anyway, I'd say it's side adventure time.

Love the Transport via Plants "cheat". I'd let that one work. Make him go to a place where he finds an elemental Druid who requires a service of him before he will show the location of his copse of flame-retardant trees. The other end is in the volcanic lair of a red dragon... who likewise demands a service for allowing the Druid through his lair unmollested.

Maybe the dragon and the elemental Druid hate each other.

There's loads of potential, here.

Really, if he can just get to the City of Brass its a trade city on the plane of fire. Yes, they're lawful evil. So they'll take advantage of him if they can, but he's a 14th level druid and they probably wouldn't trifle with him. At most, he might have to make a display of power before they back down. Then, he can probably find someone in the city to cast plane shift for him, or find the portals they use to transfer goods between planes. He can probably just pay to get himself back home, though they might charge a higher than normal price. If he can find a way to remain a fire elemental the entire time his is on the plane then everyone might just leave him alone.
