Oh!

If you ever wanted to see Sandra Oh have a complete mental break down while at the same time trying to date psychopathic killer for hire woman that might love her...this might be the show for you.
Yeah, Killing Eve is pretty great. Season 2 meandered a bit until the end, and it couldn't quite hit the highs of season 1 but that was because season 1 was just so unbelievably good. Sandra Oh is wonderful, as usual, but Jodie Comer is incredibly good as the murderous sociopath assassin. The rest of the cast are no slouches either. Oh and Comer have fantastic chemistry.
The season 2 finale just aired this past Sunday, so you can binge them all. And it's already been renewed for season 3.

Hmmm. OK, here's what I suggest (keep, modify, or discard as you see fit) off the top of my head:
* When picking a therapist, I think you should feel free to ask your therapist any questions you have. Outline your likely goals and roadmap -- where you are now, where you see yourself heading, and how far along you want to transition mentally, socially, and physically -- to your prospective therapists. Then ask them directly about specifics on how they can help you achieve that. If they give evasive answers or non-answers, or if they seem like they haven't dealt with these situations before with their patients, maybe hesitate on selecting them. They don't have to know all the answers off the top of their head, but they should affirm your decision to transition and seem willing/eager to help in constructive, concrete ways. If they aren't going to work for you and help you toward your goals, your precious time and money are likely best spent elsewhere.
* Choose someone who is a Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP), preferably someone who is a psychologist or psychiatrist. If you are also dealing with other mental health issues, such as depression or anxiety, a psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medications, while a psychologist cannot. Both will use forms of psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) as techniques and exercises as additional tools to manage any of those mental health issues, and as tools to work your way through the mental, emotional, and social steps of your journey. A good therapist will help you break your milestones and goals into smaller, more manageable, and less intimidating chunks. This will build up your confidence and help you see that your transition is realistically achievable.
* If you decide that hormone replacement therapy is part of your journey, you'll also need a licensed nurse practitioner or endocrinologist to prescribe those medications and to monitor your dosages for efficacy and for safety (like blood clots, potassium levels, and your liver health). A doctor of internal medicine may fill this role, but they may not have the experience to guide you through it.
* If you can, find a local support group for you. A group of other trans/non-binary/queer people on similar journeys to yourself that you can talk to and "let your hair down around". A good group should let you practice and try out the ways you want to present as Selene so it becomes less self-conscious and anxiety-inducing. A great group will try to get together socially in public every so often to interact with the rest of the world and provide safety/support while Selene figures out how she wants to interact with those spaces. Having accepting family, friends, and acquaintances is great, but a group of supportive folk on similar journeys as yourself will know what you're going through because they've already been there or are there right now.
* You don't have to have a specific plan for everything up front, but for those goals that you do know you must have, communicate them clearly, politely, and firmly to your health professionals. It's normal to feel impatient and/or frustrated to get on with your journey, especially if it feels like you've already been waiting for years, but there's a difference between reasonable delays until your ready and delays that are stonewalling/gatekeeping. Most of us have good internal bullsh!t detectors; listen to yours. It's your transition to your better self/life, not theirs. You must become your own best advocate, which can be difficult, but it will become easier with time. If you determine your professional isn't a good fit for your journey, don't be afraid to look for a better one.
I gotta go cook dinner right now, will try to be back later tonight.

Hi, everyone. Well, today was interesting. Wednesday's storms knocked sticks from a nearby dead tree onto an access road that I sometimes walk on. Knees, meet broken asphalt pavement. I got moderate scrapes on both knees, and I hurt my right index finger. But I don't think it's broken.
Ouch...that sucks...

There was a good reason that I didn't include that option (namely that it would always win).

Thomas Seitz wrote:Is there a story there? Or is a reference to a movie? My advice,
Never trust a therapist that tells you it's okay to be a taxi-cab driver.
Real life story. I had a therapist once that was convinced because of my (at the time undiagnosed) Asperger's, convinced because I wasn't "up to par" that I wouldn't be able to function on my own independently of my parents. And his phrasing of that was saying "One of the Governors of WV ended up being a taxi cab driver." Which is true but it didn't exactly inspire me...especially since I thought to myself "I don't want to be a Taxi Cab driver!"
So now thankfully I stuck to my guns and am a paladin...of sort.
