Vorel's Phage DC question

Rise of the Runelords

Hey all,

The DC for Vorel's Phage is 11 if the PC's get it from the rat on p. 94 of the anniversary edition. If they get it in Vorel's lab, the DC is listed as 20 (p. 106), but then it sends you to p. 94 for info. So, for subsequent saves to cure an infection, is the DC 11? (I would suspect the 20 is higher just because the PC is more likely to be infected by actually touching the fungus than encountering an infected creature.)

Thanks!

The way I read it, the DC is tied to it's source. I.e., the save DC for the phage in the lab is 20 because the source is more 'potent.' The rat is infected and far from the source, and poor Aldern is a 'carrier,' so they vary.

The DC will be 20 also for the subsequent saves. Essentially, use the information on page 94 for everything else related to Vorel's Phage, but use DC 20 in place of any other DC.

However, IIRCC, Aldern's DC for his phage infection is around 16, so what about his subsequent saves?

The DC depends on a statistic (in the case of the rat, Constitution) for the infectious agent. Seeing that the Undead do not have a Constitution score, it switches to Charisma. Aldern's Charisma is 24, thus giving his infectiousness a +7. The house itself would thus seemingly have a Charisma of 30, which is why the core Phage is at a +10.
