So I had originally planned on making my Bard a Whip Master (my first ever character... didn't know how ungodly awfully the whip could be) and once I discovered I could really only cause welts with it damage wise, I spent my combat rounds tripping up the enemy.
The Monk and I both got granted level six after the session... and he chooses Improved Trip. -_-
So now here I stand, a second rate trip artist, but with delusions of grandeur and dreams of awesome.
There are tales... legends, if you will... of a few weapons that sound so deliciously Bard that I am beginning to contemplate them without knowing anything about them (much as I did with the whip).
1. Elvish Songsword
A long sword where the base of the blade is like a flute and there are holes in the handle. Simply by twirling it around... or cleaving through foes, one can play an ode to times long past.
2. Songbow
A bow with multiple strings that can be played like a harp even as one sends arrows forth to smite his enemies. Play a dirge for the dead before they even know they are.
3. Crystalized Echoblade
A dagger... or colossal sword made of crystalized sound... not sure what it does... but it sounds coo.
We're playing core Pathfinder... so I'm not even sure if these weapons exist within the confines of our rule set, but if they do, does anyone have any experience with them?

Totem spear is what you want. Basically the same as the songsword: it can be used for perform: wind instrument due to the way it is carved. It also gives a bonus to acrobatics checks. EDIT: found the original sound sword you were talking about...this weapon is not quite that good, but it still seems to fit your purpose.
Not sure if it is 'core' exactly, but it is by Paizo. Looks like it came from the Curse of the Crimson Throne adventure path.

That... sounds amazing. And it lets me maintain reach, which is a wonderful attribute. My Bard rolled a natural 18 for charisma, so he tends to be the "Can you believe I convinced these four idiots to fight for me?" type. The ability to poke something at range, and the +2 Acrobatics check to get out of grapple range and back into pokey pokey spear range sounds perfect.
Thank you!

If you GM allows content from UC, you should be able to use a scorpion whip if you have whip proficiency. The rules say players that are proficient with whips can use a scorpion whip as one, except it's still tipped with blades, so it would still deal lethal slashing damage.
other GMs might interpret it differently but this is what I give to all my players that want to be whip wielders.
