My normal group is running a homemade, from level 1, but 3 of us and the GM are going to run a single shot campaign when we get together next month. The GM told us, I'll run it, but it's going to be Tomb of Horrors level, so bring your A games. I've been playing a ranger in the main campaign, with a paladin "tank" and a cleric healer in a 2nd side game.
I really am interested in the fighter class and was thinking of going pure archery, but without knowing what the others are doing, I was thinking maybe I need to go more switch hitter style. It's a 20 point buy and we haven't settled exact level yet, but at least 10.
The GM has basically told us nothing is really off limits although he would have to approve things like a hobgoblin ranger (odd races would have to be approved)
One guy is leaning towards Drow Assassin. The GM and I have discussed the straight fighter archer, but even dipping into Rogue to get the sneak attack option too. So I could go 9 fighter 1 rogue.
I've read all the fighter guides and they seem to focus mostly on 2handers or TWF builds. I am not opposed to a Ranger build, but I've skirted around fighter so many times (i've killed a character and almost created a fighter and the side project I waffled fighter/paladin).
So anyway, we are starting with the 62k and skills/traits/feats etc. I really want to bring my A game, because once this run is done, we start the campaign I am GMing, swapping places with the current GM and dropping the other side campaign. I want to have a great finish!

Take Lightning Reflexes and Iron Will. I always recommend Iron Will for fighters anyhow, but from the sound of it you're going to be making a lot of Reflex saves.
As far as personal gear, you should invest in a climber's kit, a few vials of antitoxin, and a chicken on a string. No, seriously - sending the chicken into every room and corridor first will save you a world of hurt. Also, if the chicken bravely gives its life for the cause, a rank of Profession (cook) may come in handy.

If it is Tomb of Horror's style, I would second the Zen Archer. Saves are really important with insta death style traps, and fighters have very few skill points and tend to have large armor penalty checks. I would just make sure that you have some magical capability in the party, since you will need it for, dispelling/IDing magical traps/utlity casting, etc.
Overall though, be paranoid, bring a lot of gear, and have fun.
