I don't think it is a problem because:

1) Kensai's Fighter training only benefits their chosen weapon. The level 10 core Magi Fighter training affects all weapons; not just their kit.

2) Kensai aren't proficient in any aside from their 1 and simple weapons. So if they want to make use of it; they blow proficiencies and other feats on them; more power to them.

3) IMO they don't stack. As worded they specifically mention counting as Fighter levels for feats & stacking with Fighter levels. However; neither are actually Fighter levels.

But even if they did; At level 10, they'd be an 12th level fighter. I don't think that's particularly over powering since they're still a 3/4 BAB class and don't have the number of feats a real fighter does.

Good catch. I originally assumed that the Kensai version was just a better version, received at a lower level THAT REPLACED the original 1/2 level version. My thinking now is that it is (or should be) replaced. It doesn't make sense at all that a 14th level kenesai magus would be treated as a 17th level fighter (level minus 4 = 10 + one half level = 7). Either way, FAQing because it deserves to be clarified.
