My Merfolk... suggestions please!

Advice

So I have an idea for a merfolk character. My last character kinda bit the dust at level 1, a long with 2 others of our party at first level. In fact there was only 1 survivor who made it to level 2. So the rest of us get a new character at level 2.

My thought was to play a merfolk, with the 15 movement trait. I was heavily inspired by Ravingdorks level 10 seaborn sorcerer, who lives out of a cauldron of flying fishbowl.

I wanted to play her as an Oracle of Heavens 1/ Wildblooded (Seaborn) Sorcerer.

Her main focus would be Pattern spells and Water magic.

I think the DM plans on having her trapped in ice (we are up north right now).

I just wanted to get some insight, if this would be a good combination of Oracle and Sorcerer. Her goal will be to rebuild her fishbowl of flying.

The Revelation would clearly be Awesome Display. Was thinking of using some of the feats for extra revelations, but none really appear to be worth it with only actually having 1 level of oracle.

My thoughts on feats then would be:
1. Improve Initiative
3. Craft Wondrous Items
.... Spell Penetration/Greater down the road?

But for the most part I am pretty dumbfounded on what to spend feats on for this kind of character. Looking for any suggestions!

Oh and her stats array (based on the standard package we use) would be:
Str: 10
Dex: 18 (16 + 2) could be switched with con...
Con: 16 (14 + 2) could be switched with dex...
Int: 12
Wis: 12
Cha: 20 (18 + 2)

Edit: If I give up 2 more levels of sorcerer, and play her lawful good I can have 2 levels of paladin for the boosts to resistance. Would hurt my spells, but robe of arcane heritage can make up for the bloodline level losses. Thoughts?

Oracle/Sorcerer = falling behind on spell levels. You'll be level 5 before you get 2nd level Sorcerer spells and that's going to hurt.

Murmaider!

??? troll ^^

Murmaider. You know, mermaid murder. Its happens to be a song by Deathklok.

I would avoid multiclassing too much. Especially with spell casters. They just lose out on too much. You might consider going sylvan bloodling and riding your animal companion around to help with that movement speed.

I would say that 1 level of Heaven's Oracle is probably the one case in which dipping is smart. Have you seen what Awesome Display does? You don't need high level spells when Color Spray knocks level 10s unconscious.

I've always found it to be a one trick pony myself, but its definitely amazing. Go dual cursed for misfortune and pick two curses than don't hurt much and you can make a foe roll twice as an immediate action. That's a real killer, but I'm not sure if any GMs will be a big fan of that.

The dip into paladin is what I was talking about. Too much is very different than 1 level into something for a killer combo. I'd still like the class levels for things that are immune to such, unless there is a way to affect creatures immune to mind affects I read over.

I love Awesome display. Something about the 1 level in Oracle for a Merfolk Sorcerer seems right. I would like some opinions on Feat ideas though.

When I read the thread title, I thought I was going to have to link to her to offer you inspiration, but I guess my job is already done. ;P

Yes, inspiration :P. But I want to modify her to have more of a purpose and going past the 10th level! I have her story. It is just the feats I need to figure out now for her.

Nature Oracle with the Mount Revelation would work well.

But it would be a level 1 mount forever... :P

Feat suggestions? ^^

Raising DCs never hurt. Metamagic to look at includes Threnodic(affects undead, at the cost of being taxed), Persistent, and heighten.

So my DM has allowed me the use of Seaborn/Sylvan as crossblooded sorcerer, which I think is nice of him.

So the character would be Oracle of Heavens 1/Crossblooded Seaborn/Sylvan Sorcerer X

So this is what I am thinking:

1. Boon Companion
3. Skill Focus (Knowledge Arcane)
5. Eldritch Heritage (Arcane: Rabbit/Compsognathus Familiar)
7. Leadership (because why not have an animal companion, familiar and a cohort for my own little army?)
9. Improve Initiative
11. Improved Eldritch Heritage (Arcane)
13. Improve Familiar
15. Spell Penetration
17. Greater Eldritch Heritage (Arcane)
19. Greater Spell Penetration

I originally planned on having Craft Wondrous Items at level 3, but I think our Cleric is going to be taking it, so I can aid with my spells.

For Familiar/cohort/animal companion I was thinking water themed. Compsognathus familiar, Snapping turtle/walrus companion, some sort of undine cohort.

Thoughts on this kind of build? Merfolk + her army.
