Magus How Spellstrike works?

Rules Discussion

Okay, so it says it takes two actions to cast spellstrike. But the spell itself takes one to two actions to cast. So does casting the spell via spellstrike take three to four actions, or just two? And if I cast a spell via spellstrike that has a somatic component, do I still need a free hand?
If you need a freehand, then what good does Sparkling Targe Hybrid do? You can't be wielding a shield and a weapon if you need a free hand to cast?

Subordinate Actions. The action that you have to pay for with your action economy for the round is Spellstrike. Any action cost for actions that it tells you to do is already paid for. There are actually several other actions that do something similar. Flurry of Blows for example costs one action, but lets you make two Strike actions (normally one action cost for each).

Somatic components for a spell are able to be made while still holding something (such as a weapon or shield) in your hand. I think this was actually changed in an errata, so if you are going off of an original print run of the physical CRB it might not say that.

Material Components, however, usually require a free hand, so pay attention to which spells you try to Spellstrike with.

If you're playing a magus, you don't have to worry about material components.

Quote:
You study spells so you can combine them with your attacks or solve problems that strength of arms alone can’t handle. You can cast arcane spells using the Cast a Spell activity, and you can supply material, somatic, and verbal components when casting spells. Because you’re a magus, you can draw replacement sigils with the tip of your weapon or your free hand for spells requiring material components, replacing them with somatic components instead of needing a material component pouch.
