Babau demons and Gauntlets

Rules Questions

Shadow Lodge

So I've got a guy whos been punching Babau Demons with his adamantine gauntlets. This led to a disagreement over the protective slime.

Gauntlets:
This metal glove lets you deal lethal damage rather than nonlethal damage with unarmed strikes. A strike with a gauntlet is otherwise considered an unarmed attack. Your opponent cannot use a disarm action to disarm you of gauntlets.

Protective Slime (Su):
A layer of acidic slime coats a babau's skin. Any creature that strikes a babau with a natural attack or unarmed strike takes 1d8 points of acid damage from this slime if it fails a DC 18 Reflex save. A creature that strikes a babau with a melee weapon must make a DC 18 Reflex save or the weapon takes 1d8 points of acid damage; if this damage penetrates the weapon's hardness, the weapon gains the broken condition. Ammunition that strikes a babau is automatically destroyed after it inflicts its damage.

I ruled that because the gauntlet is still considered an unarmed attack, it triggers the damage to person clause of the slime, while the player argued that it triggered the melee weapon clause instead. Does anyone else have a take on this?

THe gauntlet it is not really considered an unarmed strike , for example a monk do not use a highger damage dice when using the gauntlets. If I recall correctly the devs said that should have been errated prior to ultimate equipment but it was not.

I personally would say the guntlets are like any other manufactured weapon.

You'd be wrong there Nicos.
A SPIKED gauntlet would be a weapon attack, a normal gauntlet (even an adamantine one) still calls for the unarmed strike rules and specifically calls itself out as an unarmed strike so thistledown made the right call.

Can't believe I forgot that errata, this is what I get from trying to do a rules post at work.

Developer Errata. Ok then, good to know.

Now if I could only get PFS leadership to give a ruling on if developer errata is binding to PFS play, or only official published errata.
