Growth Domain Enlarge and Non-Humanoids

The growth domain ability at first level is:

"Enlarge (Su): As a swift action you can enlarge yourself for 1 round, as if you were the target of the enlarge person spell. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier."

Enlarge person targets a humanoid only; a non-humanoid cannot gain the benefit of it. Is a non-humanoid cleric with growth domain likewise unable to use the Enlarge ability, or does the "as if you were a target..." effectively refer to the effects of enlarge person and bypasses the target: line?

For PFS, does this look like a clear answer or a grey zone that will result in table variance?

While I do think it's possibly subject to being interpreted differently, I think the clear RAW and RAI is that it works. Specific trumps general.

It is pretty clear to me, by RAW, no.

Specific does indeed trump general. However there is no specific statement here to trump general.

It says it works as if you were targeted by Enlarge Person. It does not state anything to the effect of it working on you regardless of type.

However, I would expect table variance on this. Ultimately, you may have to go to a PFS person in authority for a ruling to carry from table to table.

I pointed out recently in a PFS game that a Tiefling Cleric should steer clear of choosing this subdomain since it wouldn't work.

Heck no it won't work. Not a person, not enlarged (unless you're a familiar...).

Scarab Sages

It's a (Su) ability, not a (Sp) ability, so it should work. It just uses Enlarge person to specify the effects ("as if you were...") not that it is actually cast on you. It cannot be dispelled, for example.

I still wouldn't want to make a character using this without a FAQ entry though.
