Undead Lord Heretic of Pharasma build

Advice

Liberty's Edge

First thing : MY GM ALLOWS ME TO PLAY THIS CHARACTER !!! So, please no frothing at the mouth about how Pharasma would never allow such a character to exist. In my GM's world, she exists.

The concept is to be a strong negative channeler as well as the healer of the group (through the Death's Kiss power of the Undead domain). I intend to go Versatile Channeler if all goes well, hence Pharasma. I may end up being the party face too.

Note that this character is NOT intended as a creator of undead. She channels negative energy to harm enemies (and heal allies thanks to Death's Kiss) and uses Command Undead or Turn Undead to control or scare away undead the party will meet. She will use the undead she controls to help the party succeed but she will destroy them as soon as the threat is over.

We will be playing the Darkmoon Vale modules with a few others inserted here and there.

Houserules:
My GM allowed me to take the Undeath domain as my Separatist archetype's domain of Forbidden Rites and use it to qualify for the Undead Lord archetype.

He also allowed me to use Death's Kiss as a swift action so that I can heal with Inflict at 1st level.

Finally, he uses the PFS rules for magic item creation feats (for example, Wizards get Spell Focus in place of Scribe Scroll).

Here is my proposed build (up till lvl 9 - end of the campaign)

Build:
Human (alternate racial trait : Silver Tongued), 20-point build, True Neutral (channels negative energy), Favored class : Cleric

STR 7 (I need to dump something, also that is what Fighters are for)
DEX 12 (no dumping here : I need some AC and initiative, or do I ?)
CON 14 (no dumping either : I will need to be near melee to heal my buddies and channel)
INT 12 (I need some skills)
WIS 14 (casting stats, you know)
CHA 16 (+2) (channeling stat)

Traits : Sacred Conduit, Extremely Fashionable (Bluff as a class skill)

Lvl1 Cleric of Pharasma (Separatist/Undead Lord) 1 Feats : Command Undead (class), Selective Channelling (1st level), Improved Channel (human)
Lvl2 Wizard (Necromancer-Undead subschool) 1 Feats : Turn Undead (class), Spell Focus : Necromancy (class, in place of Scribe Scroll)
Lvl3 Cleric of Pharasma (Separatist/Undead Lord) 2 Feat : Ability Focus (Channel) (3rd level)
Lvl4 Cleric of Pharasma (Separatist/Undead Lord) 3
Lvl5 Cleric of Pharasma (Separatist/Undead Lord) 4 Feat : Versatile Channeller (5th level)
Lvl6 Cleric of Pharasma (Separatist/Undead Lord) 5
Lvl7 Oracle of Bones (Black-Blooded) 1 Feat : Undead Master (7th level), Revelation : Undead Servitude
Lvl8 Cleric of Pharasma (Separatist/Undead Lord) 6
Lvl9 Cleric of Pharasma (Separatist/Undead Lord) 7 Feat : Quick Channel (9th level)

All my ability increases will go to CHA.

Storywise, the character is a bit of a madwoman, usually very motherly and caring but who will turn quite ruthless and agressive if someone or something threatens her loved ones (and especially her "child", ie her Corpse Companion). She believes that her child's undeath is a both a miracle (her dead child was returned to her) and a test set before her by the Great Goddess. She works to prove her worth and in the end get her child truly back (through Resurrection).

Other bits:
The level in Wizard gives me 2 very nice free feats (Turn Undead for those I cannot or do not want to command and Spell Focus : Necromancy which is a prerequisite for Undead Master) and a few more channels that can be used with Versatile Channeler too.

In story, after the "miracle" and realizing the undead nature of her child, she set on learning as much as she can about death and undeath, through means both religious but also arcane. Anything that can help her find a way to give life back to her child is worth pursuing.

The level in Oracle gives me even more Channel for Command Undead (which frees my negative energy clerical channels for harming living creatures), as well as the possibility to heal myself with negative energy.

I do not want the Juju mystery because it definitely does not fit the character (especially the non-evil undead revelation).

In story, her fragile mental state and the nature of the "miracle" are linked to the fact that her bloodline is contaminated with the Black Blood of Orv which blurries the boundaries between Life and Undeath.

What do you think ?

Bump in case someone would be interested. I will play her for the first time coming sunday.

The background of your character is extreme, but interesting. I would re-evaluate your starting ability scores. I also would think again about making charisma my primary ability. Channel will give as strong of a return as your proposed investment.

I would re-evaluate dumping to a 10 strength for the simple fact you are going to need to carry things in the meantime (at least until you get some mule back cords). If it where me I would play this character something like this.

Strength:10
Dexterity:14
Constitution:14
Intelligence:10
Wisdom:14
Charisma:14

Ask if you can play an Aasimar with the Peri-blooded abilities from Blood of Angels. That will boost your Charisma to a 16 and your intelligence to a 12. Gives you want you want without really changing much about the backstory and re-arranges your ability scores in a slightly better fashion.

I am not sure what you mean by this.

Do you think I should go full Oracle of Bones ? But in that case, my PC cannot be the healer the party needs.

Or do you mean I should go full Cleric and lower my CHA ? I do not see how this will give me "as strong a return". What stat array would you envision ?

Channel is meant to be helpful, but not as powerful as spellcasting. As a cleric, you should not forsake wisdom in favor of charisma, especially since you have also positioned yourself to be ineffective in melee.

This is what stands to me. Obviously eventually you will want to become undead..ie lich or vampire. With that, Cha is used for HPs and Con pretty much goes out the window. With that said, if you are a damage dealing cleric, odds are that you arent spending a ton of time buffing yourself. So the short of it is, if they want to hit you, they will hit you and +2 hps a lv from Con wont make much of a difference. I would dump some Con to bump CHa for your neg channels anyway.

Str is useless for you. Get muleback chords if you need to carry more. You wont be hurting anyone anyway with melee damage. Again, if you are meleeing with a weapon, you are screwed anyway or at least ineffective.

I dont know if your DM allows but I would look into craft wondrous at lv 3. Being cleric, you can supply most all the spells and make things for you and your right hand minion a lot cheaper. At Lv 8, go Leadership to get that right hand minion. Make him a necromancer to give you the missing spells and control of more minions. Together, you will go far.

Quick update.

I spent the whole 1st-level getting used to tactics for this kind of character I had never played before. I was a bit disappointed in the low damage dealt by each channel and we were STARVING for healing. I am going through Healer's Kits at a terrifying rate.

Command Undead is great though when you get the opportunity to use it.

My GM told me he was not happy with my zombie following me and participating in combat (which I did not do right away, but that became a habit).

Also some of our encounters made me realized that my character was feeling uncomfortable (and slightly hypocrite) when dealing with undead.

So I found a solution by deciding that my character realized how wrong the existence of her child as a zombie was. She killed it with a coup-de-grace using Cure Light Wound, apologizing for the wrong she did to him and sending him to Pharasma's welcoming embrace.

She woke up the next day with the Healing domain, having shed the Undead Lord archetype.

Because I had used Command Undead, I decided to take my level in Black-Blooded Oracle of Bones then and there.

It was a very good call, because I have now far more spells at my disposal, and especially Cure Light Wounds that I chose to cast spontaneously. Also the Command channels I got from Undead Servitude allow me to keep my negative channels for harming living opponents. Finally, having the equivalent of negative energy affinity (from the Black-Blooded archetype) allows me to heal another character as well as mine with my negative channels.

In game, when my character killed her zombie child, its undead energies mixed with hers and awakened the dormant power of the Black Blood of Orv which, unknown to her, has stained her bloodline for generations.

Next level, I intend to take my level in Wizard (Necromancer) for the many free feats and nice abilities.
