Yeah, that feat was implemented in a stupid way.

Notes:
Can take all Kitsune feats
Can take all Aasimar feats

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Background: A newer race, the Calimar are very powerful. Descended from Aasimars and Kitsune, these intelligent creatures are born with a tail. They have claws and sharp teeth from their Kitsune part and wings from their Aasimar part. Calimar use their tails to pick up items and aid them in their daily activities. Most Calimar have green or blue eyes with orange, brown, gray, or white hair. Their hometown is Calico, a village surrounded by mist and fog. Located in the forests of Tianjing, the village is well hidden.

I still need to work on lore and Star ball, look at the recent posts about what I said about the Star Ball functioning like Ahri's

The background information could do without that first sentence.

No offense, it just sounds a little corny and out of place for a race description.

I'm not good with things like flavor text...lol

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Background: A recently developed race seen as a cousin of sorts to the Aasimar, the Calimar are the descendants of Aasimar and Kitsune, mixing divine power with natural charm. Regardless of their exact heritage, they all possess the claws and teeth of a kitsune and the wings of a majestic celestial. Calimar use their naturally prehensile tails to pick up items and aid them in their daily activities, leaving their hands free for other tasks. Most Calimar have green or blue eyes with orange, brown, gray, or white hair. Their hometown is Calico, a mysterious and enchanted village surrounded by mist and fog. Located deep in the forests of blessed Tianjing, the village has been kept well hidden from most outsiders.

I didn't wanna change too much from the original, so I mostly just tweaked your version a bit.

A recently developed race though technically a cousin to the Aasimar, the Calimar are the descendants of Aasimar and Kitsune, and from this bloodline they are granted the powers of both the celestial and sylvan blood. Regardless of their exact heritage, they all possess the teeth of a Kitsune and the wings of a majestic celestial. Calimar use their naturally prehensile tails to pick up items and aid them in their daily activities. Most Calimar have green or blue eyes with orange, brown, gray, or white hair. Their hometown is Calico, a village surrounded by mist and fog. Located deep within the forests of blessed Tianjing, the village is well hidden from most outsiders. Less prone to trickery, less prone to civilization and more to leading, and yet still awakened to both the world of the forest fey and the celestial spirit. Naturally attracted to magic, Calimar are mostly attracted to that of the enchantment school.

Did I do it right? I can't figure out how to add their weakness into this.

I also need to figure out how they are weak to evil and emotion; what happens when they have a spell with the evil spell descriptor on it?
Does it take increased damage? Stuff like that.

I think that the Star Ball should be an item that can be used like a weapon with the returning enchantment, it should do 1d4 damage and when the ball is being held (Not thrown or in their backpack, they gain +2 to will saves the star ball can be in the following colors: blue, green, yellow, purple, and red.

Does that sound alright and not too op ^^^^^

Curious to hear what your GM says about all of this.

We are doing a weird race campaign, I've been going over it with him.

I hope the DM accepts it, since it does sound good on paper.

Seen enough cool ideas get thrown aside just because they're homebrew.

...give me your DM!!

My DM will be checking this thread soon! *crosses fingers*

So what do you think about Star Ball?

Is it op? Does anything need changed?

Some would say an instantly returning weapon would somehow be unbalanced, but I disagree.

The damage is pretty small and so is the active benefit when not used as a weapon. I'd say it's balanced just fine.

How do you suggest they get the Star Ball? By taking a feat? Or do they wake up one morning and find it in their bed?

Forcing someone to take a feat for a magic item is absurd.

I'd say they start out with one, or are given one by their community at a certain level.

I like the community one, on the lore ill put it as when they reach a certain age they will get it.

How old should they live to?

When a Calimar reaches the age of thirty, they travel to Calico where they will receive their Star Ball; a magical orb that emits a strong charm spell.

I think about mid-thirties should be like 15 or 16 years old for humans

All that needs to be done now is the average height, average weight, age, add the finishing touches to Star Ball and the lore, figure out what the weakness to evil and emotion does.

Average height and weight can be taken from Kitsune, age things from Aasimar.

Weakness could be a -2 to saves vs evil and emotion effects? It's a bit heavy, but I guess it balances out with the Star Ball.

I agree

If you have an idea about their posture you could base average weight on BMI. Maybe add an alignment "usually ..."? Since they are half Aasimar.
Sounds like a fun race!

I will ow transfer it to a more professional form

How do you post a word doc? Cab you at all or does it have to be a google doc?

I have never figured out how to do a word doc, though google doc is always nice.

Wow, added up the RP costs and it sums up to 9 :D

The first class I will make with this race will be a rouge with the name of Rienn Barion

I meant treat their bite as unarmed. I misspoke again. I don't like heros tied to an item. What if this starball gets sundered? Maybe if they become really vunerable to abjuration without it?
On another front, how about all spells that affect alignments different, treat them as good, irregardless of their chosen alignment?
I like calling Racial traits, or mutations, Racials.

Isn't their bite already considered unarmed? Also, the Star Ball isn't "tied" to the character. They can go back to Calico to receive one, it is completely optional. For example, only members of the Kitsune race can use Kitsune Star Gems. Or Vishkanyas can use a Corset of the Vishkanya. You may not like items that only a certain race can use. But like it or not, there are plenty items like that. Our opinions differ. As for if a Star Ball gets sundered, it will explode with a burst of magic energy, dealing 4d6 damage to those within 20 ft. where it exploded. It can be fixed with a Make Whole spell. It's hardness is 35 with 20 hit points. I don't think they should have a weakness to abjuration too. It already has a weakness to spells with the evil and emotion descriptor. Adding something else, even if they lose the weakness when they have a Star Ball. Adding a weakness to an entire school of spells could really tip the scales. I don't know what you mean in the second paragraph.

I was trying to suggest that since they are made of the stuff of the upper planes, that they might detect as good even if they always act neutral. Evil spells that do more to good creatures would do more to them.
I am fine as long as it isn't like Green Lantern's ring. I think racial items should have full proficiency for the race in spite of their class.

Did the DM let you play the Calimar then?

Yep, I renamed it to the name of Razzari.

Awesome! Happy to hear that. Hope it goes well.

Does anyone knowing of a campaign that I can join with my custom race?

You could check the campaigns that are recruiting.

If I were to run an online game, I would definitely allow them.
