Liberty's Edge

This is an NPC...right now I have him at MA8/Shd6. I have a few things worked out about him...I roll stats 3 of 4 on the grid system, and he has killer stats...Dex wasn't as good as I would have liked, but he has a 17 as long as I get him the +2, and his Wis matched (as does Con!). I'll be giving him some obvious things - Nightmare fist...Weapon Focus and Specialization - unarmed...he'll have a Monk's Robe...I want him to be a freaky, behind the scenes guy...he's part of a secret society that plays the local duke like a puppet. The guy is true neutral.

I'm looking for suggestions...anything you think might add to the mystique...I like his power level...14th lvl is about as nasty as anyone in the city.

Grand Lodge

Race?

Liberty's Edge

Likely human. Open to suggestions, though.

Grand Lodge

What about Aasimar?

The Scion of Humanity trait will allow him to take Human feats, and easily pass as one.

What's the big advantage?

Grand Lodge

Darkvision, the variable stats.

Though, Tiefling may fit better.

With Nightmare Fist, Fiend Sight(x2) and some Oil of Deeper Darkness, a very formidable foe.

Liberty's Edge

You know, I'm not all that familiar with the racial point system, nowadays. They dropped ECL...how does it work? It only matters for CR in this case, I guess...

Grand Lodge

Tiefling and Aasimar a flat races, comparable to Dwarves and Humans.

See them here and here.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, I found it easily enough...still...13 points means? I dunno. It's a good choice...darkvision, good stat bonuses...and resistances...

Liberty's Edge

Hmmm...as an NPC, I'll need to take extra traits feat for him to get the trait.

Grand Lodge

Scion of Humanity is just an alternate racial trait.

It is just like a variant on a race.

You don't need a feat to have it.

Liberty's Edge

Gah...can't get the trait. Hmmm...is there one that allows tieflings to blend in?

Except that traits are PC only, supposedly. :/

Liberty's Edge

Wait...I get you...it's a part of a racial package? Ok...but it's aasimar...so...any for a tiefling?

Grand Lodge

No, but they have other options. First, some questions:

How "freaky" do you want him?

Do you need him to be good at disguise?

What things do you need him to be good at?

Liberty's Edge

I want him almost dull...he's a nobody...he goes unnoticed. I could do that with disguise, I suppose...he has an 11 Cha...pretty normal/boring. Mostly, he keeps an eye on things and does the dirty work. He's not a face...he can act as an assassin...make people disappear...and in some ways, he's a top-notch spy.

Liberty's Edge

To expand on 'freaky'...he does insane stuff that nobody can explain...and he appears out of nowhere, whenever he wants...but always in a cloak of darkness, of course, obscuring his looks...though I picture him masked, anyhow. When not masked, and not doing just plain crazy stuff, he's painfully normal.

Grand Lodge

Oni-Spawn Tiefling.

The bonus to Strength and Wisdom, plus disguise bonus, and the Alter Self spell-like ability fit right.

Tieflings are really varied(really varied) in appearance, so the look is yours to control.

Hmmm...sounds like a good possibility...alter self makes him really work...but that means only a 15 Dex...Str goes to 16, though. Anything else you'd recommend? Do you like the level split? Feats?

Grand Lodge

A single dip into Unarmed Fighter for Dragon Style might work out.

I like the Fiend Sight feat idea(taken twice) combined with some Oils of Deeper Darkness.

Basically, a master of the shadows.

If a medium size character casts alter self into a medium sized character, does he still get the +2 to str?

Interesting.

Apparently so.
