Daze (Variant Channel Rulership)

Rules Questions

Hello,

I have been playing in Pathfinder Society Organized play and would appreciate a definitive rules answer from one of the developers with the authority to make an official ruling (within PFS) regarding various things that I've experienced table to table variation on.

1) Is the Variant Channel from the Rulership, specifically its Harm effect of Daze, a Mind Effecting Ability?

2) Does immunity to Stuns (e.g. from Elemental Traits) confer immunity to Daze as well?

Thank you.

There is a mind-effecting spell called Daze which dazes a target. However, the condition Daze has no specific qualifier.

1. There's no mention anywhere that channeling is a mind-effecting ability, nor does the definition for the variant channeling for Rulership state that it is a mind-effecting. I would say that it is not. If it were, the rules would have pointed it out.

2. Harder question. Daze can be considered part of the status hierarchy of stun (staggered, dazed, stunned; much like we have shaken, frightened, panicked) but it is not expressly so. The rules specifically state that shaken is a lesser state of fear while no comment is made about dazed and stunned.

While we can always request FAQ clarifications and sometimes a thread will get a visit from a designer, neither are certain. From what I gather, the GM running the PFS game is final arbiter at the start of the game.

It sounds like you'll want to start the game with a "please make a ruling on this and this; here is my argument on why I think it should be a specific way".

If I were GMing, I'd rule that the variant channel is not mind effecting but that immunity to stunning grants immunity to dazing and staggered. But that's just me.

Unless they errata it, no it's not mind effecting. Consider the Blasphemy spell as it can also daze... it is not mind effecting.

Immunity to stun is not immunity to being dazed.

Hi, All.
I also have a question about Rulership channel energy. Need creatures to have some intellect for apply the Variant? How many points? For example: I have cleric in a party with this ability. He can use it 8 times per day. Four PC was attaked for wolf (for example). Event's DC is 4! Cleric apply this, other PC just kill animals. Swift wolf to human or other races - doesn't changing. It acces on first level. Is it Ok?
Why I asked? In a positive part of description this variant we read about diplomaty. I beliave, target should have intellect for applying diplomaty. Who what thinking about this?
PS: Sorry my english.

Hi Hoksmur.

If they channel negative energy, then they can only do the Harm version. The Harm (dazing) channel does not have any intelligence limit on it. If you want it to be so, maybe you should talk to the player and see if they'd be fine with you limiting it to creatures with an intelligence of 3 or higher.

No, Daze effects come from a variety of sources, if it was mind affecting it would say so. Look for example at the effect of the ankylosaurus tail slap or dazing spell metamagic.

No, they are two different status effects. No-where in the rules are they linked like shaken and frightened.

I understand all about Dazed. But in contest 'Rulership' (name, the word immediatly) and information from positive part this variant is is true still? I ask more about logic then rules.
Harley understand my idea right.
