stone fist and hardness

Rules Questions

Quick question the spell stone fist say that it ignors the hardness of any object with a hardness of 8 or less
So if you strike something with a hardness of greater than 8 due you still deduct the full hardness total ?

If an item has hardness 8 or less, you treat it like it has 0 hardness. If it has 9 or more, you treat it like it had its full normal hardness.

This is because it says it ignores the hardness of objects up to hardness 8, rather than saying it ignores the first 8 points of hardness or something like that.
