Question on identifying and dealing with Haunts in a couple story-arcs

Seeing that Haunts are prevalent in the AP, I was curious as to how to handle clerics and channeled energy against haunts. From what I understand, the haunt is eliminated (for the time being) should the cleric use Channeled Energy before it manifests.

But should the players KNOW that they can do this? Are clerics trained in realizing haunts are undead? Or that they can stop a haunt ahead of time? Or should I leave this completely up in the air and see if the PCs figure it out on their own?

Admittedly, a halfway-intelligent party (with a cleric) would be using Detect Undead when, say, entering a "haunted house" while chasing a ghoul vector, but PCs never do what you expect them to do! ^^;;

What I do is after a haunt manifests iteself the first time, I give all those with Knowledge Religion a chance to identify what is happening as a haunt. Once there is a success, the characters know what must be done to detect and end a haunt going forward.
