Rules Questions

#816
What does a caster see when casting detect magic on an Amulet of Proof Against Detection and Location? If it shows much of anything, it kinda defeats the purpose if decent spell craft check shows exactly what it's function is.
I ruled that it didn't show anything. Until the party had some reason to be suspiscious and really carefully checked. Then I had it show very faintly of abjuration magic.
But I think maybe that was too far the other direction.

If a creature has a fly speed of 60' (by magic not wings), can it double move 120' and full run 240' in a round? If not then they guys on the ground could actually keep up for quite a while.

#816 The amulet gives its benefits to the wearer. It should be treated as any other magic item.

#817 Yes.

The Amulet works as the nondetection spell, which protects the target and it's gear from divination. Thus, without a successful caster check, Detect Magic simply would not work.
An unworn Amulet isn't being used and it magic isn't active, so it would detect as normal.

Generally, a creature can double move or run with any of it's listed movement types unless otherwise specified.

But keep in mind that the Fly spell specifically prohibits "running".

I stand duly corrected.

Sovereign Court

Well, it's a significant detail; Elemental Body I (at level 4) lets you fly at speed 60 but has no explicit restriction against "running". (Provided you turn into an air elemental, of course.)

I will remember that for caster.
But in this case it is an outsider that just has a listed speed of fly 30 ft (perfect).
The picture has no wings. Fly is not listed as one of its spell like abilities. So I have to assume it just magically flies.
So it is good to know it can move that fast when it needs to.

Thanks for the answers to both questions.

Sovereign Court

Well, I think it can move that fast. I still need to dig up an explicit permission, but the only explicit prohibition is in the Fly spell.
