Smite Damage Question.

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

The rules seem to not be clear about thus so here is my question.

"..."Regardless of the target, smite evil attacks automatically bypass any DR the creature might possess."

If a NPC with DR5/Magic is hit how would you interpret this?

One interpretation is that a hit bypasses DR for all the _smite evil_ portion of the damage and the DR is applied against the mundane portion of the weapons damage.

The other interpretation is the all damage avoids the DR including mundane

Thoughts? Thank you!

Sovereign Court

All of the damage bypasses the DR, including the mundane.

In effect, active Smite turns "DR/x" into "DR/x or Smite Evil".

Smite Evil adds damage against the smite target, and allows the attacks to bypass DR. It does not say that the bonus damage bypasses DR, but that the attacks do. Long and short, any DR the target of a smite has is ignored completely.

Thanks to both
