Golems, Barbarians and Sundering

Rules Questions

Hey all, I have a question that might seem silly, but I'm looking to get feedback on it.

So, as we all know, golems are magical constructs that, for the purposes of the Sunder combat maneuver are creatures and not items. A disappointment for everyone that wants to wade in with an adamantine weapon and have at.

However, here's where my question comes in. Is it possible for a Barbarian with the Sunder Enchantment or Spell Sunder Rage Powers to use those to affect a golem, essentially shutting it down for a number of rounds? They are, essentially, powered by magic though for the purposes of combat they're considered creatures. It's one of those circumstances where by the flavor of the ability I feel like it should be applicable, but I can't locate a specific phrase in the rules with a yay or nay. If anyone knows where that can be found, please post it in reply so I can take it to my DM and we can have the issue firmly settled.

Thank You,

Neal

Sunder Enchantment states "magical item", of which a golem is not. It is a creature, despite needing an item creation feat to construct. A golem is also not an "ongoing spell effect" for the purposes of Spell Sunder.

Golems are animated by an elemental spirit, not an ongoing spell effect as Nefreet pointed out. However, that might work against animated objects, which are usually created simply by using Animate Object and Permanency.

Well, not all constructs are golems. Not all golems are powered by elemental spirits.

Still, neither abilities can be used against constructs.

Now, there is a possibility that you could use one of these against an Animated Object that has been animated by the Animate Objects spell.

BBT beat me to it. Both Permanency and Animate Objects could be considered "ongoing spell effects".

Oh. Apparently, my Abjurer that has Anti-magic field has just made his shield guardian useless whenever it's within 10 ft. of it. Hmm.

Constructs and golem like a shield guardian are unaffected by Anti-magic Field. I think it actually says that in the spell.

That's not the same thing.
