So the Soulknife...

Is this the class one should play for their Psylocke kick?? I haven't had time to really go over the mechanics of psionics as a whole but the whole mind blade has me sold because psychic weapons are just so cool. What kind of things can be done with Soulknives?? I wanna do a character that starts as a Monk and then through meditation, taps into their psychic powers and goes into an assassin type of character who uses mental manipulation (if possible) and psychic weapons/unarmed combat. Thanks

I think what you actually want is a psychic warrior/monk which actually synergise really well.

The soulknife (save for some archetypes) does not get powers, he just gets a mindblade (or two). He's a fairly mobile warrior-type, with full BAB and an awesome, versatile weapon he can pull some great stunts with. His psychic strike makes a good opener, on the whole he's on a par with a standard full-BAB class.

Psylocke, as I remember the original character, was a telepath with a close-range 'psychic knife' (which seemed to replace her earlier psycho-blasting power). As such a psion (telepath) would be her equivelant in many ways, with maybe a few levels of soulknife for utility against things her telepathy can't effect. The latest material from DSP may be of some help in this regard, but I don't really know for sure as I haven't kept up with their work.

There is an archtype, 'gifted blade' (or some thing similar to that) that gives access to powers.

That being said psychic warrior is probably closer to psylocke ability wise. Decent BAB and access to martial slanted powers. Personally I'd go a few levels of soulknife and psychic warrior than a PrC with +manifester levels (like adaptive warrior). If you are playing a high magic/psionic game both classes will increase so you get a decent weapon out of the deal for the levels invested.

Okay, yeah I have perused over the PRD but I didnt want to commit to buying the books just yet because Psionics have not been approved for our home games just yet. However when it comes to 3rd party material, usually everything is approved, so wanted to get an idea of what I was dealing with before I make the plunge in DSP's books

Havent really looked at Psychic Warrior yet but I will check that out. So essentially so far we are looking at a Monk2/Soulknife2/Psychic Warrior16?? This is of course without me full understanding the classes just yet.

I'd stick with two classes - you don't need both the monk levels and the soulknife levels, soulknife has access to most of the monk skills you would want.

I'm not familiar with Psilocke, so I didmamquick search.

Most of the pictures show what looks very much like a Mindblade. Based on that, soul knife would be the way to go. If she has non-physical/martial powers to go along with that, I would mix and match some balance of SK and Psychic Warrior.

If you have the 3.5 psionics books, the base classes are more or less unchanged. There are just updated to be more in line with PF power levels. Basically everything 3.5 is the same, with additional abilities added in. Also, the SK has been bumped to full BAB (used to be 3/4).

Psionics Expanded has added in archetypes and new PrCs, since Unleashed came it before APG, and Dreamscared probably didn't know about them when they first published.

The Gifted Blade might be a good choice (from Expanded). It's a Soulknife that trades in Psychic Strike to be a 1/2 caster. I like the power (spell) list on the GB, but I recently played a SK, so probably won't be getting around to trying the GB for a while.

Also, Dreamscarred put out a kickstarter for an Ultimate Psionics, but at this time it appears to still be in beta testing. No release date afaik.

latest update that I am aware of

Slight correction on that Elven Blades. Psychic Warrior is pretty close to 3.5, but Soulknife got a HUGE makeover to actually be playable.

Gifted Blade, Focused Offense, Focused Defense.
Wis based manifesting, wis to attack and damage, use combat expertise and you get wis to AC too.
Enjoy!

The DSP books are great (I own both), but if you want to test it before buying, both Psionics Unleashed and Psionics Expanded are already on D20PFSRD. Give it a try.
As for Psylocke, soulknife with the Gifted Blade archetype is the way to go.

If you're thinking of taking psychic warrior and monk, my I suggest the Meditant. He's basically a psychic monk already, right down to the Flurry of Blows and extra unarmed damage.

I thought the SK was totally playable in 3.5. I understand some ppl not liking it because of the 3/4 BAB, but I didn't find that to be a major problem.

I wouldn't say it was a huge makeover. The full BAB is the big thing. Other than that, everything that was a class ability before is (for the most part) an optional Blade Skill. Basically works like rogue talents. You could build a SK to nearly exactly resemble the old SK.
