Monsters we really need

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

there is a heavy trend of overpowered character options from the orient and a trend of overpowered exotic monsters in Africa and South America we used for statblocks

but what about the creatures from North America?

we have 4 or 5 types of wolf, with different names, none of which, say Coyote and 4 types of cattle, none of which say "Buffalo"

Coyotes are Underpowered in d20 wrote:

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Wolves" BS that's going on in the d20 system right now. Coyotes deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.
I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine Coyote in California for 20,000 Dollars (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even pierce slabs of solid steel with my Coyote.
Californian Breeders spend years working on a single Coyote and file it up to a million times to produce the finest canines known to mankind.
Coyotes are thrice as sharp as English Wolves and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a Wolf can pierce through, a Coyote can pierce through better. I'm pretty sure a Coyote could easily bisect a samurai wearing pieces of wood for armor with a simple horizontal slash.
Ever wonder why England lost to America? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Shamans and their Coyotes of destruction. Even in the American Revolution, English soldiers targeted the Coyotes first because their killing power was feared and respected.
So what am I saying? Coyotes are simply the best Canine that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the d20 system. Here is the stat block I propose for Coyotes:
(Coyote Bite) 1d12+2xSTR Damage 17-20 x4 Crit +2 to hit and damage Counts as Masterwork
(Dire Coyote Bite) 2d12+2xSTR Damage 15-20 x4 Crit +5 to hit and damage Counts as Masterwork
Now that seems a lot more representative of the piercing power of Coyotes in real life, don't you think?
tl;dr = Coyotes need to do more damage in d20, see my new stat block

We need monsters that can remove an adventurer's brain in 4 turns.

does this count?

That's a mindflayer with the serial numbers filed off, really :P

North America doesn't really have any awesome creatures not found elsewhere, except giant bears and maybe rattlesnakes.

And Paizo doesn't like bears.

our giant bears and rattlesnakes need more respect

as do our buffalos, coyotes, and Shamans

in fact, we should get a Native American style shaman class that is an outright better version of the druid without the restrictions, just because it happens to be Native American

Animal companion choices would be

a bear that starts large and grows to huge

a cougar that is a better version of the big cat

a rattlesnake that is a better version of the viper

a buffalo that is a huge size bigger and naster bull

or a coyote that is clearly a more powerful wolf

because if japan is entitled to a superior rogue, superior weapons, superior armor and a superior cavalier

than north america should get a superior druid with superior pet options.

I know this thread is in jest, but you do know that Gray Wolves (i.e. The Wolves in NA and Eurasia) regularly kill coyotes and are far larger and more powerful predators than coyotes.

don't you dare insult the Coyote, one of my ex-girlfriend's cousin's half-sister's ex-roomates lost a friend to a coyote on the way to a rennaiscance fair. and she wore authentic fully functional reproduction full plate during the attack. stuff intended to take a hit from a real steel sword. the coyote still won with it's sharp jaws.

Liberty's Edge

I question the accuracy of that story. I doubt a cougar could really get through fullplate, nevermind a coyote.

As far as a monster we really need I would like to see an Eros angel to counter the succubus.

such an angel would be nice

but how could you not beleive a secondhand story of the killing power of a Coyote?

What about the Jersey Devil in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, Thunderbird in the southwest, Dover Demon in Massachusetts, or Goatman in Maryland?

What about the Grunches in New Orleans, Mannegishi in Canada, or Sasquatch in the pacific northwest?

North America has tons of awesome monsters...it's just Native American legend has not really been used in fiction to the extent that other cultures

What do you mean Paizo doesn't like bears? A Dire Bear is almost as large as a Kodiak Brown Bear, that makes the Dire Bear pretty impressive (though the dire bear being smaller than a real life bear is an artifact of D&D).

Most of North America's known monsters are on reality TV.

We'll probably get more North American stuff when they write up Arcadia. Personally, I want more Kytons...

We need more medium-sized humanoids or monstruous humanoids with medium to high CR.

we also need a medium 0HD fey PC race with a more humanlike appearance, whether something like an elf, nymph or human.

we need an INT/CHA race, i am considering a grey elf conversion for this purpose. a 0hd nymph conversion can also work

a STR/DEX race. i was thinking of a wood elf conversion for this

a CON/INT race, an artificial humanoid race could serve this purpose

a DEX/CON race, i am considering a snow elf conversion for this

and a STR/CON race, 0HD minotaur sounds perfect for this purpose

PC races are also monsters too.

What about the recently un-endangered Florida Panther?

It's awesome if only for the sheer amount of billboards I had to see advertising them for a while there.

Also Native American folklore is an untapped well of damn interesting monsters and stuff, that nobody seems willing to touch with a 10 foot pole because...

i like eggs.

They have a hodag in one of the scenarios for PFS. They have a wendigo. I think they have the chupacabra as well.

Also they could do fresh water lamprey and giant stirgeon.

Yes I am from the greta lakes region.
