I watched the 2nd episode to give it another try. Liked the plot a bit, but again can't get past the cheap alines. Half of the aliens is simple makeup. Why don't they just put up a body-pain nude up on the screen, say it isn't really naked as he/she is wearing paint covering everything and call it a day. Sure it will get the effect they want, oh wait they practically did that already in the last episode LOL! Honestly I had sort of forgotten.

I love you Jaime Murray.
Whelp, just saw the finale.....now what the f&+& am I supposed to do til Jun 2014?
Play the video game? I picked it up for my PS3 and, while it isn't the greatest shooter ever, it's fun and it's giving me my Defiance fix when the show isn't on. Getting the see the world outside the ruins of St. Louis is kind of cool, and there are tons of mutants, hellbugs and volge to explode. The game also kind of ties in with the show. They're running a contest now where your character will show up on one of the season 2 episodes.
I didn't think the season finale was the strongest episode, but I still really like the show. I think the world they've built up around the series would make a great RPG setting. My only real complaint is

While I know this isn't what I would call a real Sci-Fi and I am tired as All Heck of humanoid aliens and the possibility of a cross-breeding crazy stupid, the show is winning me over in writing and acting as I think they are doing a better job of showing the difference in societies and personalities of another species.

Really enjoyed the first season. Love Irrisa, the doctor, and some other minor characters. I kinda think next season will almost be sorta a BSG year (when the cylons took over that one planet the humans had landed on. Cept in Defiance it will be the Earth Republic). Lots to think over while we wait an entire year for the next season. I will miss the mayors sister. (Jaime Murray's character is deliciously evil).

Stopped watching a couple weeks ago. To my BF and it it failed. Sci-Fi Western is the best way to call it.
The Rich mine owner just like the wealthy guy in a western who really runs the town
The mayor who is wishy washy
The Pimp/Hooker reminds me of the slutty saloon girl
The rebel aliens. The bandits or natives that run rampant
Then you add the wealthy elves who are so underhanded. Almost like the mob or bad guys of the town.
Only the sheriff who like all other westerns is the drifter who they make the law because he fits the bill and is the best fit.
Yup done with the show

Is it an attempt to be edgy? I mean this type of thing works on Game of Thrones but the end seems a lot more developed then what we are getting here with Defiance. I really had high hopes because of the cast and writer teams. I probably will have forgotten this show by the time it comes around again in June '14.

Tony Curran that plays Datak Tar is a truly exceptional actor. His portrayal of Vincent Van Gogh in Doctor Who was amazing.
Defiance is no Firefly, but it has kept my attention. I for one enjoy Arrow more; the last episode of it was far better than the last episode of Defiance. Though Stephanie Leonidas in full makeup as Irisa is worth the price of admission alone.
To wait nearly a year for another episode is almost as stupid as moving Warehouse 13 to 10:00 PM.

I like it because the elves are sinister, and have magic blades. Too bad the gnome died. They make great bartenders.
The orcs are scary, but a good PC fighter can take one down pretty well. The neck golem was fierce, too, but the sheriff beat him, in the end.
That lizardfolk doctor talks like she's wearing a mask, but she's interesting. And the catfolk oracle? She's awesome.
Next season, Defiance will struggle to stay independent. I'll watch. They'll be 6th level.
It's no Firefly, but nothing can compare to the greatest show of all time. It'll do until Firefly comes back.

Yeah, in regards to the whole "resurrection" scene:
** spoiler omitted **
That was Sukar, the big Irathient Spirit Rider dude. There's been no explanation for the res in the season finale. It might be explained in Season 2 but, for now, all we've got to go on is
@ John Kretzer - I think most people are using the word "magic" with tongue planted firmly in cheek. The psychic visions, unexplained resurrection of seemingly dead characters and spirit guide-like hallucinations could be psionic but, other than Sukar's thing with the nanobots, no explanation has been given for how those things are happening. It's not Harry Potter-style magic, but it's still seemingly supernatural in a series that's being packaged as gritty sci-fi.

Finally saw the finale. There are some bright lights in Defiance.
- Rockne O'Bannon
- As mentioned above, Tony Curran is fantastic as Datak Tar
- Jaime Murray is always a delight whether as grifter, science fiction writer cum secret agent or manipulator extraordinaire.
- Mia Kirshner was great until the final two episodes and even then she was good.
The doctor waffles between a pro and a con.
Then there are the let downs.
- The former mayor's story would have been better had they left her human. Two "undercover" aliens in twelve episodes was too much.
- Also mentioned before, the churning through quality characters and the actors portraying them.
- Canceling Alphas to pay for this show.
I gave it the full first season and I wish it well if it makes another season. I just won't be waiting for it.

I liked this show, and I look forward to season 2.
Honestly, when it comes to SyFy shows, I tend to set the bar reasonably low. I just hate when they cancel a show prematurely, and replace it with a movie about gargantuan animals or yet another paranormal "reality" show.
You mean like this?

Anybody else watch the season 2 premiere? I dig it, but I'm kind of confused by E-Rep fashion. On an earth where I'm assuming Star Wars and Gladiator were movies people would remember from before the arrival of the Votans, why would a supposedly benevolent government choose to dress all their politicians and soldiers in outfits that scream Evil Empire. When the new mayor isn't wearing a gorget and what looks like a black leather cuirass, he parades around town in a black cape for Irzu's sake (bonus evil points for also having a British accent.) A pair of vandals caught defacing a banner with graffiti even call the E-Rep out on being Nazis. That's not a knock against the show. I just think it's funny that the E-Rep's public relations department didn't throw a red flag when they saw the uniform designs.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Varus Soleptor make an appearance in the show. Varus was the Liberata crime boss who sent a bunch of goons after Nolan in Hollywood, and he's the guy Nolan and Irisa were running from at the beginning of season 1. Players of the Defiance game will recognize Varus as the owner of Soleptor Enterprises, a constant source of income for Ark Hunters and one of your allies (more or less) in the game. He's a sleazy, little crook, but he pays on time and he's fairly useful to the main quest in the game. I like him.
I also liked Doc Yewll's impromptu "tumor-check" of Datak. Her deadpan, "Ya want me to check you for lumps?...Nope...You're good." was awesome.
