Help for a gestalt campaign.

Advice

I'm joining a gestalt campaign. I didn't know what a gestalt campaign was so I just made a wizard 5/arcane savant. Can any give advise about what other class to take I pretty much want to be able to figure out everything. We are playing as The BBEG's and I want to be the one that is always well informed.

Alchemist (Mindchemist)

You get a Cognatagen to increase your Int, add Int bonus to knowledge checks twice, two extra good saves (meaning all your saves will be good), and average HP and BAB instead of poor. Your major class abilities are all int-based. Your extracts have some nice self-buffs (including cure) and your bombs give you a blast option so you can save your spells for something else.

EDIT: And I think you can even move your wizard class spells into your formula book, basically getting a new spell and a new extract any time you learn a wizard spell that's also on the alchemist list. Improves your flexibility a bit. Wouldn't work in reverse and I'd check with the GM first.

Found the Lore oracle witch seems even better gives me a +1 inherent bonus to Int and another +1 every 3 levels.

If you gestalt with Lore Oracle, you get a very nice inherent +1 Int at level 7, going up to +5 if you get to level 19, but that's almost all you get. The rest of your list is pretty unimpressive:

  • Your spellcasting is Cha-based, which means unless you boost your Cha all you'll be able to cast are cantrips.
  • The only other revelations worth anything to you are Automatic Writing, Brain Drain, Focused Trance (if you boost your Cha by 2 so you can actually use it), Think on It, and Whirlwind Lesson, and these aren't great.
  • Gestalting Oracle will not improve any of your saves (since they only get Will as a high save, same as the Wizard).

If you gestalt with Mindchemist, you get:

The Lore Oracle Int boost is maybe better than the Cognatogen because it's permanent, though I think there's room for debate there. The Cognatogen is a bigger bonus, has a decent duration, and the difference between the number of oracle spells and alchemist extracts you'd be able to use outweighs any benefits you'd get from the extra spell slots from the inherent bonus.

But the Alchemist hands-down provides better overall benefits. It greatly improves your versatility and overall survivability.

Alchemist does seem to packs some pretty good punch for you.

Lore warden/ duelist would help you Gish it up, but I think alchemist is your best bet.

Rogue gives you some sneaky sneaky options and ensures you have plenty of skill points to spread on your knowledges, as would an archeologist bard, but that's a bit MAD. Same thing goes for inquisitor.

If you are going for two casters that work on different stats, a divination focused cleric might work, or a sage sorcerer would double your arcane power and diversify your spell casting options while bringing absolutely no other benefits for playing a gestalt campaign.

Ranger may seem an odd choice, but it could work as well if not as a stretch. Go for urban tracking and sleepless detective PrC for some int based tracking as well. It would be an interesting choice for a character who uses mundane and magical means of gathering knowledge. Plus gives you checks in all the important gestalt boxes and lowers stat requirements for a few combat styles. Full BaB lets you fight defensively or use combat expt without a terrible hit to what you expect a full caster BaB to look like.

An odd suggestion would be a sage sorcerer. You could then stock utility spells which can be changed to suit the situation on the Wiz side, while the sorc side can load up on spells which are used pretty much every combat.

Still leaves you rather squishy, but damned if you will ever run out of spells.

Also a decent choice, but I think the squishyness and the fact that you don't expand your spell list at all makes it inferior to the alchemist.
