Rise of the Runelords

Silver Crusade

Hi fellow GM's. I would love some input about how you feel this can or would affect the campaign.

Spoiler:
One of the PC's is a distant cousin of the Valdemar family. He also is an unwitting messenger for the Brothers of the Seven when he delivered a note on behalf of the 'business organization' to Aldern Fixglove.

With this background my idea is to have Magnimar playing hardball with Sheriff Hemlock where it boils down to they want a better tithe deal or they wont be able to help

Has anyone done these types of things? A plot outside of the main plot moves forward and can have a real affect on things down the line? Ideas on how you did it and what did and did not work would be awesome. :-) Thanks very much in advance!

The first one sounds like a good hook. I love introducing threads like these early so they connect the episodes of the Adventure Path a bit better. Just be careful or you'll have players jumping ahead.

As far as the guards in Sandpoint...

Spoiler:
After my party helped Aldern Foxglove, I had him talk to his contact in Magnimar (Justice Ironbriar) about sending some extra guards to Sandpoint. Ironbriar, of course, arranged for them to give the guards investigating the Sihedron Murders a "vacation" in Sandpoint to "give them some space from the brutal killings."

Of course, when Aldern started his own set of murders the guards all thought they were cursed, but Ironbriar hadn't been consulted on that one...

The other big forward hook my players have noticed is

Spoiler:
starting the rains that show up in Hook Mountain Massacre early, specifically as they were heading out to Misgivings. It provided great ambiance for the haunted house and bringing it up once or twice a session has left them thoroughly (and correctly) convinced dark magic is afoot.

Cheers!

Well done!

Spoiler:
After my players decide to head back to Sandpoint they will hear about this political intrigue. They will likely be in the middle of Thistletop and will be itching to get back but one never knows
