Shadow Dodge question

Would a follower of Norgorber with the Shadow Dodge and Hellcat Stealth feats be able to use Shadow Dodge in bright light? It's so far an academic question, but I can see that come up in the near future :)

I can't really see how those two would interact at all.

Shadow Dodge requires there to be a modicum of shadow (of course) for it's trick to work. It seems to work through some kind of partial concealment, although it's pretty vague. Hellcat Stealth seems to allow the use of "shadows required" abilities (at least as RAI, although not necessarily RAW) in regular lighting conditions.

Granted, Shadow Dodge is written up pretty poorly, or so I feel. I'd love to know more of the mechanics behind it. It makes no sense this doesn't require a move action (or is part of one), nor provoke AOOs. By RAW, you can do this even when you do a full attack (since you won't be using your movement allowance anyway, and Shadow Dodge doesn't require an action at all. Not even a Free action). Great boon for (some very specific LE) monks - finally a use for all that movement rate while you flurry.

I don't feel like the two would interact at all either. Hellcat Stealth is for using Stealth, not creating a dodge bonus or teleporting around. But in the feat it looks like you could use this in bright light anyway, as long as there was some sort of shadowy area nearby for you to teleport back and forth too. The feat description doesn't seem to call out any particular lighting conditions, just that you need an area that is lit up and some surrounding shadows.

As for Hellcat Stealth, it allows you to use Stealth with a -10 penalty in bright or normal light without the need for cover/concealment even while you are being observed. It simply modifies the normal Stealth rules. What is your question about RAW vs. RAI?

Unquestionably no.

The feats have nothing to do with each other whatsoever, and Shadow Dodge specifically says it does not work in Bright Light while Hellcat Stealth does not specifically say it lets Shadow Dodge do anything.

Yeah, I went back and re-read the feat. I totally missed the party about bright light/darkness in the description.

Quote:
Likewise, this feat is ineffective in areas of darkness or bright light, where one cannot readily shift between light and shadow.

Although, there is a small chance that the wording in that very last part could be taken to mean if you are in darkness or bright light but CAN READILY shift between light and shadow (such as bright light with a deeper darkness spell nearby or darkness with a daylight spell nearby)... it could create an instance where the feat could be used. But I doubt that was the writers intention.

I find it interesting that you seem to assume that Shadow Dodge uses a teleport mechanic. Is it something I missed? To me, it seems to assume you confound opponents by moving (somehow - it doesn't take an action after all) by mundane means between areas of different lighting conditions.

You didn't miss anything, it doesn't mention any teleportation mechanic. That is just how I envisioned it, but not a full teleport, more like a fast movement and fading technique. Visually similar to what "father" did in the last battle in Ninja Assassins.
