Prices of Weapon / Armor Enchantments

Rules Questions

I'm sure this has been answered before but I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for.

Lets use a +1 Longsword with the Flaming (+1) ability as an example.
A friend of mine says the cost will be 4,000gp (the price of two +1 enchantments).
But the way I understand it is the price would actually be 8,000gp since the total enchantment is +2.

Which price is correct in this situation?

You are correct. Your friend i wrong. A +1 flaming weapons costs the same as a +2 weapon (8000gp).

If a Flaming (or any other +1 equivalent enhancement) was always priced the same as a +1 bonus, then why wouldn't they just list Flaming as 2,000gp? Why bother listing its as +1 equivalent?

Thanks for clarifying!

And since I know that this is sometimes confusing as well: Adding an additional enhancement to a weapon costs an amount equal to the difference of the FINAL enhancement bonus and the CURRENT enhancement bonus.

So for example, if you had a +1 Longsword and you wanted to add Flaming to it (a +1 bonus), you would take the cost of the final enhanced weapon's bonus (8000g) and subtract the cost of the original weapon's enhancement bonus (2000g), and that's how much you pay to add the enhancement (6000g).

they actualy list prices up to +10 and you can only have +5 on a weapon maximum but up to +10 on bonuses

so a +5 keen flaming would be possible and it would cost a +7 bonus but you cant get a +7 weapon
