No higher spells. only the level dependent variables in spells like duration, range, damage etc improve.

Your caster level is increased by 2, to a maximum of your total hit dice.

So a wizard 1 / fighter 2 would count as a wizard 3 for all caster level effects, such as number of magic missiles or duration of spells.

You do not gain access to any of the class features that you're missing out on. Just caster level effects.

It would help you to meet "caster level" for the purposes of taking item cration feats, or meeting some prestige class requirements.
