confused about the Titan Mauler Archtype

Shadow Lodge

Hello people!

Recently, in Germany, the translated version of the Ultimate Combat has been released. Even after the first few pages that I read, I was confused. It is about the archetype "Titan Mauler":
I'm asking myself if the ability Jotungrip combined with the ability Massive Weapons works or not.
If so, it would indeed be possible in combination with the feat Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword) to handle bastard swords in the size category large one-handed at third level, but I can not imagine that this works really so.
Could you explain me how it works and what a Titan Mauler is allowed to wield?

Thank you all!

Sczarni

The two abilities do not work together.

No, and the reason for that is because if it DID, then it would allow any character with the exotic weapon prof for bastard sword, to wield a BS of ANY size from diminutive-collossal as a one handed weapon.

Not exactly. A Large Bastard Sword is a two-handed weapon for a Medium character. Increasing the size beyond Large changes the weapon from two-handed to what is essentially a siege weapon:

The measure of how much effort it takes to use a weapon (whether the weapon is designated as a light, one-handed, or two-handed weapon for a particular wielder) is altered by one step for each size category of difference between the wielder's size and the size of the creature for which the weapon was designed. For example, a Small creature would wield a Medium one-handed weapon as a two-handed weapon. If a weapon's designation would be changed to something other than light, one-handed, or two-handed by this alteration, the creature can't wield the weapon at all.

The Titan Mauler's Massive Weapons ability doesn't alter this restriction. It only reduces the attack penalty for using an inappropriately sized weapon.

Short version:
Jotungrip: a Titan Mauler can wield a two-handed weapon of appropriate size in each hand
Massive Weapons: The penalty for wielding weapons that are larger than appropriate is reduced
