Urban Druid Shenanigans

Advice

I like the idea of at will Alter Self at level 6 Urban Druid. It seems like it would make a really cool spy or assassin.

I saw a Urban Druid 6/Assassin 4/Master Spy 10 (or something like that) and it seemed like a fun idea...

What i am looking for/wondering about is a more optimal approach. I would still like to swing the spy/assassin idea, but perhaps with a different class (Urban Ranger? Fighter?) or straight Urban Druid.

I dislike the reliance and focus on Sneak Attack and Death Attack the build i saw seems to have.

Any ideas?

Thanks everyone!

Any ideas for which domains to take as well...

Either for straight Urban Druid or some multiclass.

Grand Lodge

You can do that with a Greater Hat of Disguise.

Average WBL puts it around 6th level. Half that if you craft it yourself.

The Defense subdomain is really strong; spontaneously casting all those defensive spells makes you good at protecting your party from all manner of weird magical assaults.

I'd go pure Druid; multiclassing into non-casters is painful.

You can actually wear armor more easily than an ordinary druid, since you don't have to worry about weird shapes and all that. The defense subdomain lets you cast Shield spontaneously.

To me, this suggests a Reach Cleric build, done on the druid. The tricky part is actually to get proficiency in a reach weapon.

Alternatively, a 2-handed weapon build. Alter Self provides a +2 to Strength, so that's convenient; and with Shield as a spontaneous spell your AC is better than most 2H builds.

OR i could just be a level 6 Urban Druid, and not depend on an item for a really cool ability. GM can't steal that from me.

@Ascalaphus: that seems an interesting idea... A dip may be necessary for a reach weapon. OR Half Elf Ancestral Weapon.

I agree, losing caster levels sucks for a Druid... But gaining casting levels and Alter Self at will is great for a Master Spy/Assassin.

I dunno, I'm jsut toying with the idea at the moment in any case.

So you'll be a shapeshifting hobo. No place to live, except everywhere. You get by, some places throw out a few meals worth of bread and old meat. No problem for you, for your crazy purify food and drink ritual assures those maggots in the beef are nutritious as they are crunchy and seared by the time you produce flame to cook your meals... which is done on a discarded metal trash bin.

I played an urban Druid who was just that. He was a lot of fun.

I was thinking more like...

People of cities forget they still abide by the laws of nature, of predator and prey, etc. This guy shows them that he thinks he is the ultimate predator. Other adventurers may not realize, but he beliefs they follow the same idea, one way or another. Thus he respects other adventurers as equals, but views others who haven't proven their worth as prey.

Hence the amoral view on murder. Like a cougar. Meow Rawr. Hiss.

Cougars hunt to eat. Why would this Druid hunt?
Cannibalism? Culling the herd of weak specimens? Or is he hunted himself?

UD has a lot of possibilities;

* Elf with the Breadth of Experience feat; he's been undercover in human society for centuries, patiently guiding their civilization in more nature-friendly directions.

* Half-elf, raised as an in-between between humans and elves, now taking the concept a step further.

* Half-orc, outcast by all, but now he'll be whomever he damn well pleases.

The choice of spontaneous domain is a very important choice. There's a bunch of very good different options available. I recommend seriously studying them, they may drive your character concept one way or the other.

Taking the Leadership domain for example will give you the Leadership feat with a bonus; you may become leader of a massive underground cult.

Taking the Defense domain makes you an expert protector-tank against magical opponents, able to protect himself and the party.

Other domains offer other options.
