Well, there's a Play by Post forum on this very site, and there's also quite a number of Virtual Tabletops (VTTs), including roll20.net (my board of choice) and Maptools.
If you have players in mind, such as some Facebook friends/people you know from high school that live elsewhere that wanna play, that's a good way to do it. I personally organize my online games out of a private forum I frequent.

There's a couple of sites that let you create character sheets you can share with people. Myth-Weavers is one of them. Or you could use Google Docs or a file on a site like Dropbox.

I'm not familiar with either of those, but playing Pathfinder Online is a lot like doing any roleplaying online.
You build a character, you get together with your group (if using a chat system such as Infrno or Roll20, if doing play by post the DM will organize a roleplaying thread somewhere), you get into character, and you roleplay.
Visuals aren't required, but roll20 and infrno (and mapquest and others for that matter) all provide an online gametable where the DM can display maps and tokens and such.

no ive played. just not online. i have it in my head that it is going to be something like apprentice card game engine or Magic Work Station felt.
Nah, it's just like any other character sheet except save digitally.
I personally use an Excel based one. Google Docs!
Google docs is perfect for keeping everyone's sheet together too.

I wasn't only talking about pen and paper (but I suppose some people do roleplay in MMO's... I've never had any interest in that so I excluded it) but rather roleplaying online in general (such as by Chat or by Post)
Rynjin and I gave you the rough basics and websites to check out. You should start reading for yourself :)
