Scion of Humanity

Advice

Is Scion of Humanity worth taking for my paladin? It fits my character to be more human like, however I'm not really bothered the other way. I'm planning of putting a rank in linguistics anyway to get celestial at some point. So it comes down to is it better to be a Human or a native outsider?

Depends, really. Being a Native Outsider has its own set of minor upsides and downsides, and you lose both with Scion of Humanity.

If there's any human-only Feats you want then yeah it's worth burning a rarely spoken (that I've seen anyway) language for it.

From an rp perspective my character is basically human so I like him being a human for all intents and purposes. But mechanics wise I dont plan on choosing an human specific feats. I'm not sure about the pros and cons of being just a native outsider. I know spells like enlarge person and dominate person wont effect me (unless I choose scion).

The only other one I'm looking at taking is Deathless Spirit but since its for Age of Worms I dont know if it will be overpowered.

It will give you more options.

If you take the Racial Heritage feat, it will give you even more options.

It's hardly game breaking.

I wouldn't bother with scion of humanity, and you're already considered human for human-only feats (much like a half elf).

So what would people recommend I'm thinking of going with Deathless spirit since the ability it replaces is only really good at low levels.

No, Aasimar are not considered human already. Half-elf is a humanoid hybrid race and has the race type(subtype) of Humanoid(Human, Elf). Aasimar, on the other hand, are Outsider(Native) by default. Scion allows them to also count as Humanoid(Human) and is necessary for any feats, traits, classes, etc. with Human as a prereq. It also subjects you to any magic or skill effects that target Humanoids or Humans specifically or call them out for altered effect.

Erm, have you got a source for this? Even though they are often born from humans Aasimars are not human type and do need to take Scion of Humanity to qualify for human feats. Aasimars are outsiders with the native subtype: Outsider (native) while half-elves are: Humanoid (elf, human).

One thing to keep in mind is how spells affect you. In other words if you keep the outsider (native) type, you can't be affected by enlarge person (humanoid only) but neither can you be affected by hold person (humanoid only again).

edit: completely and utterly ninja'd

One thing to note, you don't "trade out" Outsider(native) when you take Scion. You have both so, for example, as a Scion of Humanity being both Outsider(native) and Humanoid(Human), you'd be affected by both Bane types.

Grand Lodge

With Scion of Humanity, you could take the Racial Heritage(Half-Orc) feat and be a Redeemer Paladin.

It would also allow you to have the Celestial Servant and Beast Rider feats.
