Tiefling Variant stats

Rules Questions

Well I am looking at playing a tiefling and I was wondering if there was any variant statistic for them that does not require a feat. I saw the PF-SRD but the way I read that it seems like it costs a feat, but some say that in a recent book you do not need a feat.

Can anyone give me any information about this?

P.S.: What are the rules with-out the feat for variant ability scores? Do you still qualify for getting the claws and tail variant abilities even if you get the ability score changes?

P.P.S.: Is their a trait that lets you pass for human?

Thank you,
-Hexen

It definitely does not require a feat.

Grand Lodge

No feat required. Not since Blood of Fiends.

Okay. Some more information would be great (Referring to 2nd post/PS message of OP).

Without the feat, it has you trade out certain racial abilities for the new ones. So, for example:

Prehensile Tail: Many tieflings have tails, but some have long, flexible tails that can be used to carry items. While they cannot wield weapons with their tails, they can use them to retrieve small, stowed objects carried on their persons as a swift action. This racial trait replaces fiendish sorcery.

In the italicized part, it tells you what is replaced when you trade out. In this case, it's the fiendish sorcery that is replaced by the prehensile tail.

Fiendish Heritage is an outdated feat that you no longer need.

I have the Advanced Races Guide, but not the Blood of Fiends book; how does the variant statistics work in the Blood of Fiends book please?

Blood of Fiends works the same way. Each heritage gives you alternate racial stats, alternate skill modifiers, and alternate spell-like abilities. You replace the racial stat modifiers, the +2 racial bonus on Bluff and Stealth checks, and the spell-like ability darkness respectively. The 100 Variant Tiefling Abilities chart you see has abilities that replace the spell-like ability of your tiefling.

Okay thanks. So you would still qualifying for claws then as you would still have a spell-like ability. Cool, thank you.

Silver Crusade

Do I have to take Fiendish Heritage to use the Varient Tiefling Heritages even if I do not want the Varient Tiefling Abilities?

Depends - are you getting the heritages from Bastards of Erebus or Blood of Fiends?

BoE requires a feat. BoF does not. Consult your GM about what material he/she is accepting in the campaign.

Silver Crusade

It is Pathfinder Society, and BoF.

Ah, if it's PFS, then have a look at the official Additional Resources page. You'll find that BoE isn't even legal at all (last I checked, anyway). Lots of good stuff from BoF is PFS legal, though. Just check the page number of whatever you're wanting to use, and see if Additional Resources lists it as being allowed. Easy as that! :)

Bastards of Erebus is a bit outdated. Everything you really need is in the Blood of Fiends and ARG
