Belt of Teeth!! AmagawdSoCool!

I love the belt of teeth. It looks perfect for my super chompy Eidolon.

I love the theme and flavor of the belt, from the demonic heads to it being a belt! It's PERFECT! Except for a few points, that when added together make me wonder what the purpose of the belt is at all:

It makes an aoo against a target that provokes them within 5 feet. So, basically, it makes an aoo that anyone could normally make, unless you are a tiny character with no threatened space. So no advantage unless you are tiny.

It deals damage as a bite attack based on your size and uses your str as well. Being tiny or smaller makes this bad. And for Combat Maneuvers, it's worse.

So this isn't made for tiny guys. Probably not for small ones either. This is for medium or big dudes...

Since it uses your bab, str mod and adds a +4 bonus, it compensates for feats, magic weapons etc your normal attacks might have. The +4 isn't really much of a bonus to hit so much as it's an attempt to make the item capable of hitting almost as often as your normal attack would have. Ok, so nothing gained, nothing lost.

The belt does not add to the normal number of attacks you could make in a round. Does this mean 'normal number of AOO's'? If so, you are replacing one of your normal AOO's with the belt's attack. The belt treats its attack as a bite, meaning you only do more ice damage if you are large or larger since 1d6 for medium isn't really special.

So far, the only reason I can see the belt having a use, is for making aoo's when you are unarmed, disarmed and/or getting a free attack off on someone without them having any idea they were in danger (the shackled prisoner bites you with his belt as you walk past him to torture his ally, then as you begin to flee in fear, you are killed by the belt in your attempts to run/escape).

That sounds pretty freaking cool, actually. Just....exceedingly specific.

Also would work for a reach weapon wielder who doesn't have any of the usual ways to threaten adjacent.

What Slim said. It's so you can use a reach weapon and still threaten adjacent.

That bites....no pun intended. If it gave an extra aoo or could transfer natural weapon special abilities or um, I don't know. Was better, I'd love it even more. I love it as is but man, it's just.....not useful for what I want to do. Oh well. Was hoping I had missed something and you guys could enlighten me. /crying

An oracle with the curse that gives you a -4 to hit when wielding weapons might gain a benefit from it.
And if you do something where you don't have your hands free you can still threaten.
Or at the start of combat, you don't have a weapon drawn because you were using your actions to grab your component pouch and cast a spell. Now you can threaten and do an AoO which you could not have done without the belt.

Which is indeed why I have it. "I was busy throwing bombs! Hey belt, bite that guy!"

Who disturbs my rest?

Belt of teeth? That ain't good for nothin' more than a rude awakening during an occasional itch!

My suggestion?? Get yourself a combat trained Tiger! Over here at Tigers "R" Us we sell quality, unused tigers fresh from the Mwangi Expanse! The only encounter they've had with people was at the end of a pointy spear, so they're mighty feisty!

Remember folks, if you're looking for overpriced dentition, that's your business. But if you're looking for a designated mauler, that's our business!!

Make the belt intelligent. Now it can activate itself and not use up your AoO limit.

Yeah. You would let an intelligent item whose main interest and cause for existing is biting people decide on when to do it.

I can't see anything wrong with that plan at all.
