How to PbP recruit?

Gamer Life General Discussion

Silver Crusade

I posted a recruitment for PbP up yesterday (link). It has yet to garner any interest. I expected some dots at least by now, so it makes me quite worried that something is amiss. Sure, it isn't anything new, but its not bad, right? Is it...

Too long? Too vague as to where the characters start, or what the adventure will entail? Too complex with 2 sets of 3d4+4 six times, turn a 1 into a 4, plus 10 point buy? Too restrictive? Too foreboding, seeming as though I'd like to kill the PC's? Too Nightskies, in that my history is concerning? Too many of the above in small degree?

Something else...? I might be antsy about it, but most campaigns get dots in hours.

It's possible you're dealing with the "tl;dr" hazard. When it comes to Recruitment, less is often more. Just explain the basic setting, character creation rules, and style of play. The rest can come once people are invested.

But that's just my advice. My writing experience comes from fanfiction sites, not PbP recruitment. :P

I'll go ahead and add a post giving a "TL:DNR" version, saying the excerpts are not necessary to read, and give a little more insight on the style of play. I should think that will also show that I'm eager to have the game.

I think it's because the other recruitment threads pushed it down on the list. Most players tend to only look at the top ten or so, because those tend to be the active ones.

I'm going to take a look at your game idea now and reply to it.

I notice your Attribute rolling system is rather complicated and not what most people are used to. Because it's the first thing they see, it might turn people away.

Silver Crusade

It is close to simple 20 point buy. Perhaps I should go with that then?

or possibly an array

Lantern Lodge

bumped u.
not really intrested in it since i dont know much about the setting but if u do need a player i wont mind playing some thing basic like a sword and board Fighter.

Interest is usually strongest in Adventure Paths. More people are familiar with them and have an interest in the story.

Homebrews usually get less.

It could also be that people are a bit concerned about lack of knowledge. You are obviously using an established setting, but they don't know anything about it. Just some thoughts.

Lantern Lodge

I personally dont like PbP games. If it was over TS, Vent, RC, or Scype then sure but pbp is some thing ive never been interested in. Primarily because i suck at typing and the meaning of some thing said can differ from the tone of voice used which does make a difference in RP.

I'm actually working on a character for your PbP, but didn't think it necessary to dot. I'll be sure to do that in the future.
