Quick question everyone, I'm feeling like I should know the answer to this but it just isn't coming to me. The Viking Fighter archetype from People of the North Has an ability called shield defense that replaces Armor Training. Does this only replace the first instance of Armor Training, allowing him to gain the ability as normal when he'd normally get Armor Training 2, or does it replace the ability completely?
I'm thinking it's the first one since his Berserker ability clearly states that it replaces Weapon Training 1,2,3, and 4, but just wanted to get some clarification.
Thanks!

We had a discussion on this a few days ago.
I personally believe they give up all of armor training based on the RAW. Both "Replaces X 1, 2, 3, 4" and "Replaces X" are valid ways to removing everything in an archetype as far as I know, so my best guess is that some development snaffu occurred.

What I find strange in the description of Shield Defense(bolded):
"(...) Whenever she is (...) wielding a shield, the viking’s shield bonus to AC increases by 1. Every 4 levels thereafter (7th, 11th, and 15), this bonus increases by 1.
If it increases every four levels, why does it not increase at level 19?

Don't they usually write something along the lines of "(...) to a maximum of +4 at 17th level."?
I understand that this ability replaces Armor Training, and that Armor Training has a comparable progression, but AT is worded much more clearly in this regard:
"Every four levels thereafter (7th, 11th, and 15th), these bonuses increase by +1 each time, to a maximum –4 reduction of the armor check penalty and a +4 increase of the maximum dexterity bonus allowed."
I guess RAI, Shield Defense stops at 17th level, but the wording could be read in both ways.
Or it may be my shaky grasp of the English language.
