Pistolero and Grand Marshal

Rules Questions

In the requirements for the Grand Marshal prestige class it says "proficiency with at least two firearms." Does this just mean two different guns, or two different types of guns? Does the Pistoleros proficiency with all one-handed firearms fulfill the requirement or would you need proficiency in one and two handed firearms?

Since a Pistolero is proficient with all one-handed Firearms, he should still meet the pre-reqs for this class. Since firearm proficiencies are weapon specific, this just means that a non-gunslinger character or archetype would have to pay an extra proficiency feat penalty to take the class. If it meant types of guns, it would probably just say "must be proficient with all firearms" or something similar.

Since EWP(Firearms) gives you proficiency with all firearms, I'm having a hard time thinking of a situation where this requirement actually makes a difference.

Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Combat): "Choose one type of exotic weapon, such as the spiked chain or whip. You understand how to use that type of exotic weapon in combat, and can utilize any special tricks or qualities that exotic weapon might allow."

Firearm Rules: "Firearm Proficiency: The Exotic Weapon Proficiency (firearms) feat allows you to use all firearms without penalty. A nonproficient character takes the standard –4 penalty on attack rolls with firearms, and a nonproficient character who loads a firearm increases all misfire values by 4 for the shots he loads."

Aside: Grand Marshal isn't the official name for this class. It's actually Shieldmarshal. It's one of the changes d20pfsrd had to make since they started advertisements. (Notice how it's still under the S-Z heading on the website)

I'm going to assume the author was working from memory and was thinking of the rule that says "anytime you take a feat that modifies a single type of weapon (such as Weapon Focus or Rapid Reload), you must still pick one specific type of firearm (such as musket, axe musket, blunderbuss, pistol, or double pistol) for that feat to affect", and missed that EXP was an exception to this rule.

I was wondering why it was down there. I didn't even know such changes were needed.

Yeah, since d20pfsrd now has a shop and is making money, they aren't covered by the OGL and permissive use clauses and can't use Paizo named materials. They had to go through and change everything with a Paizo-specific name to a generic name.
