grappling questions

Rules Questions

I have a few questions and I love the message boards cause things are made clear real fast.

1: Im grappling I maintain the grapple and im in control

I go to "pin" then "tie up", this taking a couple of turns

Do I roll cmb vs cmd to do this or is this just an standered action I take with out a roll?

2: can I grapple as part of a charge?

I know It gives you +2 sunder.trip, and disarm. and not to grapple but dose the rules allow me to as a charge action so i dont take the AoO?
(from threathing areas im assuming chacter has the improved grapple feat)

3: If not, Is there a feat or archtype that would allow me to do so?

4: (and off topic dose charge negate all AoO no matter how many threathen areas he runs though?)

and thanks for the help every one.

The pin/tie up effects are chosen when you decided to try to maintain the grapple. So from a normal grappled condition, you'd either make a grapple check (cmb vs cmd) to maintain and pin or a grapple check (cmb vs cmd) to maintain and tie up. With all appropriate modifiers of course.

Not normally. Check the combat maneuver description. Grapple is a standard action. Charge is a full round. Can't do both on a round.

Yes, anything that gives you a grab attack. Any appropriate polymorph effect, or a alchemists tentacle or something like that. You make the charge, and if you hit, grab lets you make a free grapple check.

I see nothing that suggests charges negates ANY AoO whatsoever.

Once you have successfully grappled your opponent, you must make a roll to maintain the grapple in the rounds that follow. If you succeed at maintaining the grapple for the round, you can choose to do damage, move, pin, OR tie up (if already pinned). So, if you already had him pinned in the previous round and then you succeed on your ned grapple check to maintain, you can automatically tie him up with a rope. The CMD for him to escape would be the last grapple check you made.

No. Grappling is a standard action. Charging is a full round (or standard action if all you have is a standard action). You can do one or the other.

I do not believe so.

No, if you charge through threatened squares, your opponent(s) will get an AOO.

one last question I forgot, can a medium size charater grapple and pin a large size monster?

I say yes, because nothing in the rules say they can't, just an effective penalty for size difference.

Some GMs have a conceptual problem with letting that happen and houserule limits, but I don't believe there's any RAW support for doing that.

Absolutely. There is no explicit size restriction for grappling. As monsters get bigger, they get increasing strength and size bonuses, so it may be hard to do so. But if you can make the needed rolls, there's nothing stopping you.
