Aasimars and Tieflings

Why is it that Tieflings require a feat in order to use their variant heritages but Aasimars don't? Is there something I'm missing? Just curious.

You don't need a feat to use the variant heritages for tieflings

The feat only really lets you roll a couple times on the random ability chart three times. You don't need it to take a variant heritage (even in PFS!)

The Feat was only for the AP. Blood of Fiends overruled this to make it to where you can take them.

Oh excellent. Secondary question then. The Aasimar variant heritages give you two racial traits. The standard is two traits. Does that mean that those are in addition to the two traits, that those are the two traits you must take, or that if you're that heritage and you take racial traits it has to be one or both of those?

Those are options for traits, not traits you get automatically.
