Hey everyone.
I'd like to know a few things about being a Synthesist.
I made a character with Synthesist 2 Gunslinger 1 and decided on the Serpentine base form for his Eidolon with one Limbs (hands) evolution to be able to cast spells. Do I have to spend more points on legs or not? I've read that if the Eidolon doesn't have the appropriate limbs then the Synthesist can't move those. Is that right?
By the way, the reason I chose Serpentine base form is so that I get the highest Dex modifier for gunning.
Also, does anyone have any advice on building this further so I can get a magically empowered gunslinger on later levels? We didn't begin play yet.

Start here to prevent rehashing of alot of questions that have been asked and answered.

secondly, if you don't have a firm grasp of the rules, don't play a synthesist, or allow a player to use one in a game you run. They are complex, highly customizable, and easy to incorrectly build by accidently ignoring the internally balancing mechanisms that move them from 'simply overpowered' to 'insulting everyone at your table'. And I say this from a place of love, I am playing one currently in a Jade Regent game.
"I've read that if the Eidolon doesn't have the appropriate limbs then the Synthesist can't move those"
This is incorrect, you get the movement speed of the base form.
Starting Statistics: Size Medium; Speed 20 ft., climb 20 ft.; AC +2 natural armor; Saves Fort (bad), Ref (good), Will (good); Attack bite (1d6), tail slap (1d6); Ability Scores Str 12, Dex 16, Con 13, Int --, Wis --, Cha --; Free Evolutions bite, climb, reach (bite), tail, tail slap.
So with no legs, you have spd 20, and a 20ft climb speed.

Commit time to reading that thread... the FAQs.. and deconstructing the rules, because there are some key elements to how they work that are outline in text buried in the 'fused eidolon' section.
It's not to say the rules are bad, it's just, there is no spacing, italics , or bold font to draw your eyes to the important things in the rules. So take time and read everything.

Will do. Yeah, the rules were a bit confusing and vague at points, but that thread seems to help a lot with them. Also, I've read elsewhere that a Synthesist is mostly good for a melee caster role. What do you think about one being a ranged attacker with support spells? Does multiclassing into Gunslinger severely hinder the capabilities of the character?
