Myrmidarch / Magus questions.

Rules Questions

Liberty's Edge

I've been doing the whole 'get a character concept, must build it' thing again recently, so I've got some questions to make sure I know what I'm doing!

1. Does a Myrmidarch in fact only get to use ranged touch spells through his ranged spellstrike? That limits you to Ray of Enfeeblement, Acid Arrow, and Scorching Ray early on..

2. Is there any reason why a Blackblade couldn't be an Axe Musket?

3. How exactly does frostbite or chill touch work? Does it remain on your spell list for X uses like a cantrip, or do you hold multiple charges? With one casting during a spellstrike spell combat, could you potentially hit 2 or more times with it?

1.The "Reach Spell" metamagic feat can bring your Magus-standard Shocking grasp back into the equation.

2.Don't try that without talking to the GM 1st... You might end up with a blackblade that can't be enchanted in anyway to effect your ranged combat.

3. I'm not sure on this one, I've never understood how "instantaneous duration" and "you can use this touch attack up to one time per level" are supposed to interact. Full round action to touch up to 1/lvl targets in reach? Or anytime between now and when your life ends, you can choose to use this touch power (but no more than 1/lvl)

Liberty's Edge

Awesome, Reach Spell sounds great! Oh, one more. Spellstrike "delivers the effects of" the spell. In the case of Enfeeblement, do they still get the fort save I imagine?

Yes, if you use spellstrike to inflict a spell that has a save, they still get to attempt the save. (most of the time this is a non issue, since "most" of the spells that require attack rolls don't require saves.)

Liberty's Edge

Thanks for the help. ;)

I would highly recommend the use of Snowball instead of using Reach Spell on a Shocking Grasp

1. Yes. You would need Reach Spell to broaden your selection.

2. No. An axe musket is first and foremost a two-handed firearm, not a one-handed weapon.

3. Improved Ranged Spellstrike says that any effects not used in the round the spell is cast are lost, so it seems that your GM could go two ways on it: Either A) A spell like Frostbite automatically dissipates after the first round you use it to Ranged Spellstrike with Reach Spell, or B) On the second round, the spell is still usable, just not subject to Ranged Spellstrike (As Spellstrike says that you can only use that ability when you cast a spell; by RAW any round after you cast a spell, the spell returns to being delivered the old-fashioned way.)

I would recommend you GM make Snowball a second level spell... but that's another thread entirely.
