[Dreamscarred Press] Future Third Dawn Kickstarter

Product Discussion

Publisher, Dreamscarred Press

I've mentioned it in a few different forums / posts, so I figured I'd actually post a topic on it.

Later this year (once development on Ultimate Psionics is done and we're off to print), we'll be running a Kickstarter for a Pathfinder upgrade for the Third Dawn Campaign Setting. This project will include a full artwork upgrade, expanded details on the different cultures, regions, and denizens of Third Dawn, and like Ultimate Psionics will also be in hardcover.

Our earliest projected time of running this Kickstarter is April or May and we're open to hearing what sort of rewards or stretch goals people would be interested in for the project.

What would YOU like to see?

A crossover adventure with NeoExodus: A House Divided? ....What?

First off, a question:

1) If we participated in the Ultimate Psionics Kickstarter, will we get an e-mail letting us know when the Third Dawn Kickstarter starts?

Well, Jeremy, I'm not too familiar with the setting (I know that it's all-psionic, but that's it).

So, things I'd like to see in the book (whether they are stretch goals or not):

A) Regional write-ups like in the Inner Sea World Guide, combined with Regional Character Traits from the Inner Sea Primer.

B) A chapter detailing how to deal with Bestiary creatures that are very magic-themed.

C) A chapter detailing the cosmology of Third Dawn (i.e.: Are there deities? Why don't they grant magic to their followers? What are the outsiders like? What are the other planes of existence like?).

As for a definite stretch goal:

D) Actual Third Dawn Player's Guide (which, if you do, you could put the Regional Character Traits in there instead of the main book).

Cheers!

That's some awesome feedback, thanks!

You're welcome!

Of course, you didn't answer the question:

absolutely!

I'll send out an update when it goes live.

Awesome!

Hopefully some other people will toss in some ideas! :)

So far some of the other ideas people have contributed via Facebook or the Dreamscarred forums include being able to name characters, cities, artifacts... stretch goals for additional cultures or continents... posters of the maps... mini-adventures... weapons that are powered by psionic focus... full-color printings...

Lots of good feedback. Always open to more. :)

Just spit-balling a few ideas:
Perhaps a pledge level to pitch a region/culture?
If you're doing chapter splash page art again: pledge to have your character included in one of the drawings?
If you can manage to grab WAR for another cover: pledge to have your character on the cover (I know this one went FAST on the Ultimate Psionics drive).

For stretch goals:
Additional fiction pieces set in the campaign setting.
A piece on how to integrate Third Dawn into a Planescape or Spelljammer -esque campaign, what challenges would be faced in a world where your magic suddenly doesn't work quite right (if at all!).

Does that mean the AP is on hold until the setting is released? Honestly, I think that would be a good idea, if only to take the space that articles flesh out to portray details, much like RotRL did back in the day.

Perhaps a stretch-goal for psionic vehicle-combat? Psionics and the Planes? Optional rules for "Psionics are different"?

I'd also suggest a player's guide - Ravenloft is still ym standard staple for that: The player's guide included information the PCs know, whereas the DM's guide featured what was REALLY going on. While RL didn't do it perfectly (some DM-info slipped in), I think the idea per se is great.

Cavian - I'm not sure on Mr Reynolds for the cover - not because I don't want him to do it. I haven't discussed it with him anymore in depth than "that would be cool" and certainly would want to discuss the specifics with him and get him on board before going through that, but that would certainly have to be a very high stretch goal IF he was interested and willing. That being said, I'd love to have him do it, but obviously budget, his availability, and his interest would be the critical parts there.

I'm not sure on the pitching a region / culture. That would have to be a unique, fairly high-dollar pledge, because we outlined the cultures of the world already in the 3.5 campaign setting, so adding in new would require either retconning (which I don't like doing unless it's absolutely necessary), or a brand new continent / land mass, which would bring with it the cost of maps and the like. That being said, I'm not opposed to it, it would just carry a hefty price tag.

Character in the artwork is a great idea. That's one folks have really liked in Ultimate Psionics and the artists we've been working with have been doing a great job.

Additional fiction pieces is likely something you can expect to see.

Integrating with other campaigns is an interesting stretch goal... I'll have to consider that.

End - It's not technically on-hold, as Michael McCarthy wrote pretty much the entire AP already (he's tweaking the second half of the AP after running through it with his own group). Part 3 is about 90% done - the artwork is done, the maps are done, I just need to do a write-up on alchemy in Third Dawn and a revision of the big bad to fit our vision for that monster in the Campaign Setting. I was hoping to get it out this month - if I can get either the big bad or the write-up done, layout can start while I finish the other.

I'd also expect a Player's Guide as a stretch goal. It's something we've been trying to work on over the years, but lack of time and resources have kept us from really tackling it.

For vehicle combat, I'd expect we'd use existing 3PP (or Paizo) vehicle combat rules, modified with psionic aspects. Planar travel is definitely a "must discuss" aspect. Psionics as different... only in regard to that planar travel. After all, there's NO magic in Third Dawn. No divine, no arcane, no spell-like abilities, no spell resistance, so no need for transparency or non-transparency distinction. :)

All I would ask, is that if there is a difference in the history between what people think happened, and what really happened, that the truth is included for GMs.

Does anyone know if this conversion ever got made?

It's still something I have planned... but I'm basically the lead on that project and I still have too many other responsibilities to sort out.

It is something I'm working on as time allows - it's just finding that "as time allows" that's the trick.
